FIR for fake Karnataka govt circular announcing holiday following death of Saalumarada Thimmakka

Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru | Photo Credit: File photo The Central division cyber crime police have registered an FIR against an unknown person for creating a fake notification claiming that the government of Karnataka had declared November 15 as a holiday for schools, colleges and government offices following the death of Padma Shri awardee and renowned environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka, by forging the signature of a senior official. Based on a complaint filed by Elisha Andrews, Program Director (ULMS),E-Governance on November 15, police charged the accused under Section 66(c) (Identity theft) and summoned the admin of the WhatsApp group where the notification originated. The fake notification was fabricated using digital photoshop tools and circulated on WhatsApp groups to spread misinformation and misguide people. Mrs. Andrews, whose details were misused to create the fake notification, asked the police to track down the accused and take legal action so that such mischief is not repeated . 114-year-old Padma Shri environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka dies

Padma Shri awardee and environmentalist `Saalumarada` Thimmakka passed away at a private hospital here on Friday. The 114-year-old was ailing for quite some time and was hospitalised for treatment where she breathed her last, her family sources said. Born on June 30, 1911, Thimmakka earned the fame `Saalumarada` after she planted 385 banyan trees all along the 4.5 km stretch between Hulikal and Kudur in Ramanagara headquartered Bengaluru South district. With no formal education, Thimmakka started the plantation campaign as she treated them as her children to fill the void in life for being childless. For her work, she received 12 awards, including Padma Shri in 2019, Nadoja award by the Hampi University (2010), National Citizen Award (1995) and Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra award (1997). In his condolence message, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of Salumarada Thimmakka. Bhagya Prakash Environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee ‘Saalumarada’ Thimmakka has passed away at the age of 114. Thimmakka breathed her last on November 14 at a private hospital in Bengaluru. She, with her late husband, is noted for planting and tending banyan trees along a national highway for which she was honoured with several awards. Thimmakka hailed from Gubbi taluk in Tumakuru district in Karnataka. After marrying Bikkala Chikkayya, she moved to Hulikal village in Magadi taluk. The couple, who did not have children, planted 385 banyan trees on State Highway 94 from Kudur to Hulikal.
