Sachin Yadav finishes 8th in men’s javelin throw

Indian Javelin thrower Sachin Yadav had a forgettable outing on his Diamond League debut, finishing 8th at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy, on Thursday. The 26-year-old failed to cross the 80m mark in either of his five throws, finishing with the best throw of 79.18m from his second attempt. He had gone to Rome, hoping to breach the Commonwealth Games qualifying mark of 82.61m, but couldn’t find his rhythm and missed out again. This was his second successive competition where he failed to breach the 80m mark, following the 79.07m throw at the 2026 Federation Cup in Ranchi last month. Ramesh Pathirage of Sri Lanka won the men’s javelin title in Rome with a historic 92.62m throw, setting a new national record and making him the 8th-best thrower ever. He is now second best in Asia behind reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan and also pushed Indian national record holder Neeraj Chopra (90.23m) to 4th place. Federation Cup finale disappoints as Indian javelin throwers miss CWG mark

2 min readRanchiMay 25, 2026 10:57 PM IST After three days of record-breaking action at the Federation Cup in Ranchi, the finale turned out to be a letdown, with the javelin throw event not living up to expectations. Despite six throwers with personal bests of over 80m and the presence of Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Kumar Jena, World Championships finalist Sachin Yadav, and Rohit Yadav, the event was subdued, with youngster Shivam Lohakare winning the competition with a new personal best of 81.71m. The major shock came when none of the throwers breached 82.61m, the Commonwealth Games benchmark. Shivam’s effort was the only positive in the competition as he threw four 80m+ throws while favourite Sachin (79.4m) failed to touch the 80m mark. While Sachin tried multiple things to counter the wind, like throwing a flat throw and giving a lot of flight to the javelin, but nothing worked for him on the night. “An athlete can have an off day. I don’t think it would derail him. We will do better at the …

Neeraj Chopra, Sumit Antil allege harassment by javelin coach Naval Singh

When an Olympic medallist speaks up, it carries weight. But when multiple elite athletes echo the same concern, it demands immediate attention. In a recent development, two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, two-time Paralympic champion Sumit Antil and a few other elite athletes have alleged mental harassment and repetitive use of abusive language by javelin coach Naval Singh, who trains Sachin Yadav. A written complaint was submitted to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on April 10, after the matter was raised with officials from SAI and the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI). “I have always been a clean athlete and I don’t want to be part of any controversy. I tried to explain to him (coach Naval Singh) multiple times, but this is not the first time. It has gone beyond my patience level,” Sumit Antil told The Bridge on Friday. “He gets drunk and sends random recordings abusing us and dragging our families in it. He tends to behave this way when competitions approach,” he added. The Bridge is in possession of emails written …

JLN Stadium set for major Javelin training upgrade

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi is set to receive a major boost to its athletics infrastructure after the Union Sports Ministry’s Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) approved the proposal of Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav for the procurement of specialised training equipment. The approval will benefit not just Sachin but also several other javelin throwers training at the iconic venue, strengthening India’s preparation pipeline for upcoming international competitions. It has been manufactured by Indian sports goods manufacturing company under the ‘Make in India’ initiative for a cost of Rs 15 Lakh. The Javelin Throwing Machine, modelled on the Kraft Trainings Gerät (KTG), develops javelin-specific strength and release speed through weighted sled throws. India had earlier become the third country in the world in 2021 after Germany and China to procure this specialised equipment for elite javelin training, and now the product is being manufactured domestically, supporting the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. A similar strength-building machine was earlier installed by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports …
