Spiritual fervour rises as sadhus start reaching Jammu for Amarnath Yatra

As preparations gather pace for the annual Amarnath Yatra, saints, ascetics and spiritual seekers from across the country have started arriving in Jammu weeks before the pilgrimage officially begins on July 3, reported PTI. The 57-day pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, remains one of the most significant religious journeys for Hindu devotees. Ahead of the yatra, many sadhus have taken up temporary residence at the historic Ram Mandir in Jammu’s old city, which traditionally serves as an important transit centre for pilgrims travelling to the shrine. Kumbh Mela | At Prayagraj, an encounter with naga sadhus and tent stays

The Ganga is everything in Prayagraj. She flows quietly, but the banks are bustling with excitement. Here, water from the river is packed in customised bottles, ready for devotees to take back to their hometowns. Priests perform pujas with reverential devotees, all set to take a holy dip, with cries of ‘Ganga mata ki jai’ frequently emerging from the many boats lined up here. The Sangam — or the Triveni Sangam — is the place to be at Prayagraj. It is the confluence of three rivers — the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati — and one has to travel quite a bit by boat from the banks to reach here. A dip here is said to cleanse one’s soul and free them from rebirth. The Triveni Sangam is a major destination for Hindu pilgrimages and more so, during this time of the year. For, it is the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, a time when people gather for what is described as the biggest religious congregation in the world. Boats arriving at Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj | Photo …

How do Naga Sadhus remain naked even in bitter cold? Know what’s the secret behind this – India TV

Image Source : PTI Naga Sadhus at Mahakumbh Kumbh Mela 2025: The Maha Kumbh, the biggest congregation of humanity on Earth, began in the holy city of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, today with Paush Purnima, and devotees have been arriving at the Sangam for the sacred ‘snan’ (bath) since morning. The severe cold is noticeable, with many trying to protect themselves by wearing multiple layers of clothes from the chill. Meanwhile, Naga Sadhus are seen without clothes, their bodies covered in ash. This raises a question: how do the Naga Sadhus endure the bitter cold that most of us try to avoid? How did Nagas originate? It is believed that after Shankaracharya established the four monasteries, he became concerned about their security. To address this, he formed a group that was fearless and detached from worldly affairs. This group eventually took the form of Naga Sadhus. Becoming a Naga Sadhu is a challenging spiritual journey in itself. Unlike other sadhus, Naga Sadhus practices Hatha Yoga. An example of their intense dedication can be witnessed at the …

Maharashtra Elections 2024: BJP slams Mallikarjun Kharge`s remarks on `Sadhus`

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticised Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday for his remarks about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Poonawalla accused the Congress of having an anti-Hindu and anti-Sanatan “DNA”, reported news agency ANI. Poonawalla questioned the Congress`s stance on religious figures in politics. “This is the true philosophy and DNA of Congress which is anti-Hindu and anti-Sanatan. Therefore, Congress is now saying that those who wear `gerua` and saffron, the clothes of a sadhu should not come into politics but will they ever say this about Maulana and Maulvi? This is the same Congress that spoke about `saffron terrorism`, and `Hindu terror`…they will never say such things about other faiths, it shows how Congress hurt the Hindu faith for votes of their votebank…they consider `batoge toh katogey` as communal and vote jihad as secular,” Poonawalla told ANI.
