Saharanpur: Man kills debtor, fakes own death to evade rape trial; 4 arrested

Four men have been arrested in Saharanpur for allegedly conspiring to fake the death of one of them by murdering his debtor and burning the body inside a car to stage a fatal accident, police said on Sunday. Police arrested all four accused near the Badkala flyover on Saturday. (For representation) The accused were identified as Arjun Singh (23), Robin and Vijay Sagar, all residents of Biharigarh in Saharanpur district, and Shariq, a resident of Uttarakhand. According to police, Arjun, whose death was allegedly staged, is facing trial in a rape case and hatched the plot to evade a possible conviction. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Abhinandan Singh said the village head of Chorkhurd informed authorities on February 25 about a burnt car parked between Chorkhurd and Chandpur villages with a charred body inside. A police team reached the spot and identified the vehicle through its damaged number plate and registration details. The car was originally registered in the name of a resident of New Tehri and had been purchased by Arjun on February 16. …

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a Myanmar national (in his 40s) from Ekta Colony in the Kutubsher police station area of Saharanpur on Thursday evening, officials said. Several forged documents were recovered from his possession, including an Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank passbook, and property papers. A blue slip referencing the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was also recovered, bearing his name, photograph, and reference ID (FOR REPRESENTATION) The man, originally from Myanmar, had reportedly been living in the district for the past several years and was employed at a meat factory. According to officials, the ATS had received inputs that some Myanmar nationals had allegedly entered India illegally and were working in local meat factories using forged Indian identity documents. Acting on a tip-off about a suspicious individual near a ground close to Ekta Colony, an ATS team moved from Deoband to the Tapri area on Wednesday evening. The team surrounded and apprehended him. On the night of November 17, Amit Verma, 35, who had been working at a jewelry store in Chandni Chowk for 10 years, asked his wife and daughters to switch off their phones. The next morning, as per CCTV footage, he was at Kanha Jewellers asking its owner Pankaj Goyal for some articles — 110 rings and 30 necklaces cumulatively weighing 1.08 kg. Since exchange of jewellery is common among jewellers of Chandni Chowk, Goyal did not suspect anything. “However, Verma fled with the items,” said DCP (North) Raja Banthia, adding, that the accused was arrested on November 23 with the stolen items worth Rs 1 crore. Two coaches of a goods train derailed in the Kaiserganj area of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, officials said. Railway Superintendent, Moradabad, Ashutosh Shukla said the incident occurred while shunting the goods train and no one was injured. He said two wheels of the two coaches of the goods train derailed near the Meerut City station at around 9 am. In a similar incident, two coaches of another goods train derailed near the Saharanpur railway station in the early hours of Friday. No injury was reported, officials said. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ambala, Mandip Singh Bhatia said, “The derailed goods train, originating from Ferozepur, Punjab, was approaching the Saharanpur railway station when the incident occurred. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation. Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Sunday, October 20, inaugurated three new airports virtually from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, as part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)–UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik). The newly developed airports are located in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh; Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh; and Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Flights from these airports are set to commence shortly, enhancing air travel accessibility in these regions, a press release from the government stated. The RCS-UDAN initiative, launched on October 21, 2016, marks its seventh anniversary and aims to improve infrastructure and connectivity, particularly in underserved and remote areas of India.
