Sanitary waste management projects launched in Kozhikode
As part of the special budget initiatives, the Haritha Keralam Mission has launched sanitary waste management projects covering 29 institutions in Kozhikode district. The projects focus on the installation of napkin incinerators and distribution of menstrual cups to streamline menstrual hygiene management. The authorities have selected 26 educational institutions for the installation of napkin incinerators, including 10 higher secondary schools and 17 colleges across the district. In addition, Kudumbashree neighbourhood groups, operating under 14 local self-government bodies participating in the Net Zero campaign, will undertake the distribution of menstrual cups, a press release said. A district-level coordination meeting to review the implementation of the projects will be held at the Koyilandy EMS Memorial Town Hall on February 6. The programme targets eligible school and college students selected at the institutional level. Officials said the mission would organise awareness classes on menstrual hygiene and the use of such products in the selected institutions. The sessions are scheduled to conclude by February 10.
