The Wrestling Federation of India’s fight against over-age wrestlers intensified after the federation wrote to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) seeking details on date-of-birth revisions of wrestlers. The WFI also requested the statutory government body to preserve the history to ensure Aadhaar-based age verification. In addition to this, the WFI also ordered all verified wrestlers to undergo fresh document verification while making void previously verified wrestlers. “We have written to UIDAI highlighting the multiple cases of date of birth forgery and have also requested that history of all the changes made remains intact. We have learnt that some wrestlers were approaching Bangalore centers and getting their history erased,” a WFI source told The Bridge on Thursday. The WFI had disqualified almost 500 wrestlers last week after a detailed verification pointed to inconsistencies in birth records. Around 300 wrestlers in men’s freestyle, 125 in Greco-Roman, and around 50 in women’s wrestling were disqualified after being found overage during the verification process for the U-17 National Ranking Tournament held at Gonda, Uttar Pradesh from 6-8 …

Focused on winning multiple medals at the 2026 Asian Games and 2028 Olympics, the Wrestling Federation of India has appointed three foreign coaches and a High-Performance Director on Thursday. They are expected to work with the national squad, and will resume office next month. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Monday announced the nine official weight categories and eligibility criteria for the Pro Wrestling League (PWL), which is set to return in January 2026 after a multi-year hiatus. According to a circular by the WFI dated November 3, the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) will have five men’s weight categories including 57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 125 kg and four women’s categories including 53 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg, 76 kg. The league, featuring only men’s freestyle and women’s wrestling, will have six teams. Each team will include five Indian and four foreign wrestlers, and will be played over 18 days. Each team will have a purse of Rs 2 crore. The league’s official start date will be revealed soon. The Indian wrestlers concluded the 2025 Asian Wrestling Championship with an impressive haul of 10 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze medals. The continental championship was Indian wrestlers’ first tournament after the sports ministry revoked the ban on Sanjay Singh-led Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). “WFI congratulates all medal winners. Wrestling Federation of India president Sanjay Singh was elected as a member of the United World Wrestling-Asia bureau on Monday in the UWW general assembly in Amman. The election took place a day before the Asian Championships set to take place in the city. According to a release by the Wrestling Federation of India, Singh won 28 out of 38 votes. The statement read, “His election to this prestigious position marks a significant achievement for Indian wrestling, further strengthening the country’s presence on the international wrestling stage.” Singh is a close aide of erstwhile WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan, who had sexual harassment charges levelled against him. The Indian Olympic Committee had placed the administration of wrestling in India under an ad-hoc committee, which led to a ban from the UWW. Singh later contested and won the WFI elections but within three days the Sports Ministry banned the WFI again.
