Mumbai: The last pending section of the larger Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) project has neared completion after the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) achieved a structural milestone by launching two girders over the Vakola Nallah bridge. SCLR extension project nears completion, 4.2 km stretch likely to be opened by Jan 2025 | Mumbai News

The Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR) Extension project is nearing completion, with only 100 meters of suspension span left to install. This segment is part of a cable-stayed bridge, and the final installation awaits two planned traffic blocks, pending necessary permissions by the traffic police, an official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said. The installation will be phased to accommodate the stretch’s curvature, after which suspension cables and road surfacing will follow. With approvals in place, the remaining stretch of the SCLR is set to open to the public on January 1, 2025. Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently completed a Rs 16 crore payment to defense authorities for essential land acquisition related to the project. This 4.2-kilometer SCLR extension was initially planned to finish in 2019 after construction began in 2016 but there were delays due to multiple reasons, including defense land requirements.
