The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The day Satwik-Chirag defeated World No 1s Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho on way to the Singapore Open Super 750 title, silent preparations were ongoing in Hyderabad and Mumbai, and wherever Mathias Boe was hunched over his laptop. The backroom analysis focused on how to prepare for the same Koreans the next time. Defeated in straight games, Seo-Kim are expected to hit the drawing board with Korean doubles great and legendary coach Park Joo-bong, and ensure Seo would figure ways to foil the strategy of being pushed to the back-court by the Indians. Team Satwik-Chirag was readying to counter these counter-strikes. ‘Four eyes see better than two,’ went Matthias Boe’s announcement on Instagram of “secret” intelligence-sharing that has admittedly happened behind the scenes. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and their Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her have all been in cahoots with Boe for a month now, plotting against the best names in men’s doubles from Korea, Indonesia, China, Taiwan and Malaysia. Coach Mathias Boe reunites with Satwik-Chirag

Coach Mathias Boe reunites with Satwik-Chirag

The Danish legend and Olympic medallist Mathias Boe has rejoined Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s team as a consultant. Boe, who had parted ways with the Indian pair after their unexpected quarter-final exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics two years ago, returned to the setup as a consultant. The 45-year-old Boe himself announced his return on social media, stating that he started working with Rankireddy and Shetty just before the 2026 Thomas Cup, where India bagged a bronze medal. “Since I now have a bit more time on my hands, pre Thomas Cup I have secretly started working with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty again,” he wrote in a post. “This time as a consultant and sparring for Tan Kim Her, where my focus is going to be on the tactical aspects and match analyses, while coach Tan will stay full time with them,” added Boe. Boe revealed that he’ll continue working with Rankireddy and Shetty for the upcoming 2026 BWF World Championships in Delhi and will feature in the coaching …

Satwik-Chirag stub Malaysian upstarts with calm carnage to make Singapore semis

Satwik-Chirag stub Malaysian upstarts with calm carnage to make Singapore semis

4 min readMay 29, 2026 06:20 PM IST India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are in the curated attack phase of their career, where they don’t take their big smashing abilities for granted, and use it judiciously. While tamping down on Malaysian upstarts Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai, the Indian duo who have been forced to adapt and evolve, found other ways to collect points, and get the job done. As such they scored fewer points (94-95), as compared to the highly touted Malaysians, aged 20 & 21 while winning 19-21, 21-17, 21-13, quite comfortably. The gamestyle is also energy-efficient, though even a mellow Satwik can cause enough damage with his soft kills, as much as a menacing one. Chirag has been on a roll since the Thailand Super 500, and except for that one ridiculous dive he put in as if landing on a foam pit, he ensured he was protecting his back and keeping things as unadventurous as possible. Kang-Tai had handed Satwik-Chirag a shock loss at the All England. Aaron Tai, …

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffer blowout in Thailand Open finals as tall-person problems persist

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffer blowout in Thailand Open finals as tall-person problems persist

Riding confidence would be one way to go about the next two years for Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, but that is not sustainable, given how losses on Tour are bound to drag it down in a jiffy. What was broken at the Olympics – their spirit – can only be mended at the Olympics. But in the meantime, the bruised game can be patched back, so it doesn’t fritter a good week with a terrible finish – a 21-12, 25-23 loss to Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin at the Super 500 Thailand Open. Their first final in 8 months after China Masters, was also about nerves, just like that straight sets loss to Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho in September of 2025. For a pair that used to pick titles easily, a mid-career crisis has hit, where some very solvable issues in their games need solving — technically. Though when Satwik says problems are more mental than physical, he is not off the mark. His own confidence crisis is very clearly dating back …

Satwik-Chirag’s title drought extends to 2 years

India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty finished runner-up at the 2026 Thailand Open Super 500 on Sunday. Up against Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin, the top seeded pair from India went down 12-21, 23-25 in 53 minutes in what was their first final of the year. The loss meant that Rankireddy and Shetty, India’s ace doubles pair, now haven’t won a title for over two years. Their last title win came at the Thailand Open in May 2024. Rankireddy and Shetty were completely outplayed in the opening game by the Indonesians. The Indians were well in control in the second game before Carnando and Marthin raced to take the lead. The Indians saved four match points in their bid to force a decider, but eventually crumbled to a straight games loss. They were guilty of playing unforced errors at crucial junctures multiple times in the contest. “It was a little difficult for us to control [in the second game],” said Satwik after the match. “They took us into their game style and it …

Satwik-Chirag make first final of the year; credit Thomas Cup for confidence boost

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made their way into the final of the 2026 Thailand Open Super 500 on Saturday. Rankireddy and Shetty, who have won the tournament twice before, defeated Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 19-21, 22-20, 21-16 in a hard-fought semi-final battle. The Malaysians had the better start in the opening game, taking control from 7-7 to open up a six-point lead at 15-9. Although the Indians attempted to narrow the gap in the latter stages, the Malaysian pair held firm to take the game 21-19. A closely fought second game saw both pairs battle for points, with Rankireddy and Shetty reaching game point at 20-18. Refusing to back down, Goh-Nur duo saved two game points to level the scores, only for the former world No 1 from India to clinch the game 22-20 and force a decider. Champions in 2019 and 2024, Rankireddy and Shetty then dominated the third game, sealing a comfortable 21-16 victory to book their place in the final. The tournament marks the first final of the …

Are Satwik-Chirag India’s most consistent badminton players right now? | Badminton News

3 min readMay 15, 2026 05:40 PM IST Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have played semifinals or better, in 11 of the 22 tournaments they have featured in since start of 2025. That’s a 3/4 or runner-up finish in every second tournament they play. With Indian badminton in the doldrums in this period and only an Australian Open Super 500 crown for Lakshya Sen, besides finals for Kidambi Srikanth and Ayush Shetty at that level of competition, the doubles duo could be said to have literally carried the sport, even if no-titles are usually dubbed ‘mid’ results, given the legitimate high expectations. At the Thailand Open Super 500 this week, Satwik-Chirag will however have a chance to end the title drought that’s lasted for exactly two years now. Their last title came at the same tournament in 2024. After defeating Takumi Nomura and Yuichi Shimogami of Japan, the top seeds next play third seeds Goh Sze Fei – Nur Izuddin in the semis, ranked No 9 in the semis. A 7-2 head to head means …
