The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The day Satwik-Chirag defeated World No 1s Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho on way to the Singapore Open Super 750 title, silent preparations were ongoing in Hyderabad and Mumbai, and wherever Mathias Boe was hunched over his laptop. The backroom analysis focused on how to prepare for the same Koreans the next time. Defeated in straight games, Seo-Kim are expected to hit the drawing board with Korean doubles great and legendary coach Park Joo-bong, and ensure Seo would figure ways to foil the strategy of being pushed to the back-court by the Indians. Team Satwik-Chirag was readying to counter these counter-strikes. ‘Four eyes see better than two,’ went Matthias Boe’s announcement on Instagram of “secret” intelligence-sharing that has admittedly happened behind the scenes. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and their Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her have all been in cahoots with Boe for a month now, plotting against the best names in men’s doubles from Korea, Indonesia, China, Taiwan and Malaysia. Satwik in Wonderland: The optimism that powers India’s greatest doubles pair | Badminton News

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy was once that Peter Pan of endless, undiminishing, unfazed, unbroken optimism. Nothing could destroy his positivity — the hulking smash-maestro of Indian badminton had an indestructible mind. He bent reality, inhabited an Alt Universe while winning one of the biggest titles on Tour. He even made Chirag Shetty – who compulsively Googles every new thing, and doubly, triply checks the smallest details – buy into his hypnotic idea, as they disrupted global badminton by becoming the first Indian No 1s in doubles, while coming from a country with no pedigree in doubles. You could pin Satwik’s ridiculous self-belief down to a specific date – June 16, 2023. Though Satwik in Wonderland went on till 18 June, 2023, when India’s finest doubles duo won the Indonesia Open. Back then, Satwik-Chirag had not learnt to ration their energy, hold back and save themselves for just big events, like a PV Sindhu could. Or to check themselves in strokeplay, to keep a few tricks hidden from opponents. They would go all-out, unafraid, and play an unrestrained, …

Satwik clarifies his statement on lack of support after Thomas Cup bronze

3 min readUpdated: May 8, 2026 03:20 PM IST After Indian men’s doubles shuttler Satwiksairaj Rankireddy’s comments that “nobody cares” about India’s Thomas Cup bronze medal caused a stir on social media, the shuttler has issued a clarification regarding his intent behind the statement. On Friday, Satwik said his recent comments were not intended to seek “money or grand parades” but to urge people “to celebrate every win, big or small” in all sports. “The last few days have brought a lot of attention to my recent comments regarding the lack of a reception for our Thomas Cup bronze medal. While I am grateful for the overwhelming support and encouragement, I want to clarify my intent because I see many people deviating from the original point,” Satwik wrote. His statement continued: “My words did not come from a place of wanting personal fame or taking credit away from anyone else’s achievements. I have the utmost respect for every athlete who brings glory to India, regardless of the sport.” pic.twitter.com/XbsWxjM4oD — Satwik SaiRaj Rankireddy (@satwiksairaj) May …

No Lakshya, Satwik for Korean tie with Ayush on MS1 duty; Tanvi Sharma loses to World No 10 Gao Fangjie

No Lakshya, Satwik for Korean tie with Ayush on MS1 duty; Tanvi Sharma loses to World No 10 Gao Fangjie

3 min readFeb 6, 2026 09:00 AM IST India started Friday glumly as Tanvi Sharma began the Asian Team championship, going down 21-9, 21-9 to World No 10 Gao Fangjie. It was always going to be a tall task for the young World Juniors runners-up, ranked No 42 in seniors. But she is fast discovering that not only does top-flight badminton need excellent strokes – which she is in possession of – but most Indian shuttlers trying to break through have fallen at the stamina challenge that requires you to play opponents of a fairly high level for 5 straight days with the jeopardy rising with every passing day. Week in, week out. Playing China’s second string, is as is a severely intimidating prospect for those new on this level, but Fangjie turned on the pace or made Tanvi look slower from the word go. Clearly exhausted from two days of leading India’s WS1 duties, where she beat higher ranked Busanan Ongbamrungphan, Tanvi could raise her levels at any point in the match, after trailing …

Depleted India aim to punch above their weight – Preview

Depleted India aim to punch above their weight – Preview

A depleted Indian side will have its task cut out when they take the field at the 2025 Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China. The prestigious mixed team tournament is the equivalent of World Cup in the sport of badminton. In the eighteen editions of the competition so far, only three teams have lifted the title – China (13 times), South Korea (4 times), and Indonesia (once). India, as a matter of fact, has never even finished on the podium at the Sudirman Cup. Their best display in the tournament remains a quarter-finals finish each in the 2011 and 2017 editions respectively. Placed in a tough Group D for the 2025 Sudirman Cup along with Denmark, England, and inaugural champions Indonesia, India will face a stiff challenge to advance to the knock out rounds. The fact that India will be competing without their premier doubles pairs – Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in men’s doubles, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand in women’s doubles, further compound their woes. In their absence, the onus will be on the in-form and fast-rising mixed …

Satwik-Chirag pull out of 2025 Sudirman Cup

In a major blow to India, the badminton men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pulled out from the upcoming 2025 Sudirman Cup on Monday. “Satwik-Chirag ruled out of BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2025 due to sickness,” the Badminton Association of India revealed in an Instagram story. The former world No 1 duo joins the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand as the second pair of shuttlers to withdraw from the prestigious competition. In the absence of Satwik-Chirag, Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi will form India’s first-choice men’s doubles pair. Satwik-Chirag were last seen in action at the All England Open Super 1000 last month. They have since been missing in action and had even pulled out of the Badminton Asia Championships. The 2025 Sudirman Cup is slated to be held in Xiamen, China from 27 April, 2025 to 4 May, 2025. India have been drawn in Group D for the competition along with Indonesia, Denmark, and England. India have never finished on the podium at the Sudirman Cup. …

Tough draws for Lakshya, Prannoy at 2025 Asian C’ships
