Tinder’s AI can find better matches by scanning your camera roll

Tinder’s AI can find better matches by scanning your camera roll

Tinder is testing an AI-powered “Chemistry” feature that learns about your interests and personality by analyzing your camera roll. In its latest earnings report, the dating app’s parent company, Match Group, described it as an interactive matching feature that’s designed to combat “swipe fatigue” by surfacing fewer, more compatible matches. Chemistry requires the user’s permission to access camera roll photos, and will also ask “interactive questions” to get to know users better. Match says this is a “major pillar of Tinder’s upcoming 2026 product experience,” and that the feature is already live in New Zealand and Australia, with plans to expand to additional countries in the coming months. Giving an app’s AI free rein to look through photos on your device feels a little invasive, even if the feature is opt-in only. Match Group has introduced this and other AI features in an effort to encourage Tinder users to stick with the app, which has suffered a decline in paying subscribers for more than two years. Worldcoin Ordered to Delete All Iris Scanning Data From Users in Spain, Germany

Worldcoin Ordered to Delete All Iris Scanning Data From Users in Spain, Germany

Regulators in Spain and Germany have cracked down on World (formerly Worldcoin), the project led by OpenAI founder Sam Altman, directing it to delete iris scans of users collected in both countries. The latest action against the firm adds to a string of controversies that the project has faced since it was introduced in 2023. World requires people to have their eyes scanned for identification purposes, which could pose a privacy threat to users — unlike passwords, biometrics cannot be changed. On Friday, German regulators released detailed directives for Altman’s web3 project. In the EU, the World project is headquartered in Erlangen, Bavaria. In an official statement, the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA) said Altman must align World’s operations with the EU’s data protection laws. “With today’s decision, we are enforcing European fundamental rights standards in favour of the data subjects in a technologically demanding and legally highly complex case. All users who have provided Worldcoin with their iris data will in future have the unrestricted opportunity to enforce their right to …

Apple Vision Pro demos will include scanning your glasses to identify your prescription

For anyone who wants to try the Apple Vision Pro when it’s officially released on February 2nd, there’s going to be a whole procedure. We knew that, but now a report in Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg sheds light on how the in-store demos for the Vision Pro will work. According to Gurman, the process will start with an Apple Store employee scanning users’ faces to pick out the light seal for Apple’s headset — a process he likens to configuring Face ID. For those who need vision correction, Apple will reportedly also scan their lenses with a special device to suss out the prescription. Then an employee fits a Vision Pro with one of “hundreds” of on-hand lenses and a seal and tells you how to use the device (including, apparently, how to hold it). The demo that follows, Gurman says, will last for up to 25 minutes. It will reportedly involve viewing photos and videos (including the 3D “spatial” kind that you can take with the iPhone 15 Pro), using …

Google Working on Anti-Phishing Scanning for Deceptive Apps, May Arrive With Android 15: Report

Google has updated Android with several security and privacy-oriented features over the years and the search giant is reportedly working on adding support for identifying phishing apps to protect users. Expected to arrive with a future update to the Android operating system, Google is developing a feature that will inspect app activity to check for deceptive behaviour, including phishing. The phishing app detection service will reportedly run locally on Android phones, while some detection-related details will be used to alert other users about the same threats. Android Police reports that a new “scanning for deceptive apps” feature is in development and some references to the functionality are available on the second Android 14 QPR2 beta version that was recently rolled out to testers. The publication uncovered details of the feature in the More security & privacy sub menu in the Security & privacy section of the Settings app. According to the report, Google will introduce a system service that will scan apps that show users a password field — while many legitimate apps also prompt users to enter their …
