Chintalapudi Lift Irrigation Scheme brooks no further delay, says CPI

CPI State secretary G. Eswaraiah has urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to allocate adequate funds for completion of the long-pending Chintalapudi Lift Irrigation Scheme and ensure fair compensation to the farmers and families displaced by land acquisition for the project. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister on Sunday, Mr. Eswaraiah said the irrigation scheme, designed to lift Godavari waters and provide irrigation and drinking water to the upland regions of the erstwhile West Godavari district and parts of Eluru and NTR districts, remained incomplete despite being launched nearly 17 years ago. He recalled that the project had been initiated in 2008 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with an estimated cost of ₹1,701 crore. After bifurcation of the State, the project was expanded in 2017 under the government led by Mr. Naidu to cover additional ayacut in the present-day NTR district. Congress, RJD slam reduction in subsidised LPG cylinders under Ujjwala scheme

Opposition leaders on Tuesday criticised the Centre`s reported decision to reduce the number of subsidised LPG cylinder refills available under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from nine per year to four, reported the IANS. Several leaders accused the government of weakening welfare support for low-income households and questioned its economic policies. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit launched a sharp attack on the government, claiming that the reduction in subsidies reflected a decline in welfare measures. He remarked that the Ujjwala scheme should now be called the “Andhkaar Scheme”, arguing that successive reductions in subsidised refills had diluted the programme`s original purpose. Dikshit said previous governments had provided more extensive support and questioned why the number of subsidised cylinders had been reduced despite claims of economic progress. Concerns over rising cost of living The Congress leader also alleged that subsidies across several sectors had either been reduced or withdrawn over the years. According to him, support on petrol, diesel, fertilisers and irrigation had been curtailed, while citizens were facing increasing taxes and charges in various areas …
