Revanna on Tuesday said that the State government’s five guarantee schemes have played a significant role in improving the economic condition of people and that steps are being taken to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits. Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the schemes at the Zilla Panchayat Hall in Kalaburagi, Mr. Revanna said that the government has initiated measures to curb misuse and irregularities detected during the implementation of the schemes. He said that around ₹14 crore to ₹15 crore that have been wrongly transferred to ineligible beneficiaries have already been recovered. Efforts are under way to recover nearly ₹100 crore more in coordination with banks, he added. Vijayendra has accused the Congress government in Karnataka of systematically denying people the benefits of its guarantee schemes with flimsy excuses. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mr. Vijayendra said that ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, the Congress promised the Gruhalakshmi scheme to all women in the State. However, after coming to power, the party imposed restrictions on the number of beneficiaries, he said, alleging that the government has now initiated another exercise to further prune the list of eligible women. “It is the duty of the State government to implement the guarantee schemes in the manner it had assured the people,” Mr. Vijayendra asserted. Mumbai: In a move to simplify access to welfare schemes and cut down on paperwork, the Maharashtra government is set to launch ‘MahaSarathi’, a unified citizen database, likely on May 1. The Aadhaar-linked platform is designed to ensure benefits reach the right people while preventing misuse of government funds. Once verified and linked with Aadhaar, their data will be stored permanently, eliminating the need to submit the same documents repeatedly for different schemes. The Minister was responding to a question by Member of Parliament (CPI-M) from Kerala, John Brittas, who had sought details of the scholarship schemes currently available for the minority students at all stages of education and the number of beneficiaries, State-wise. Mr. Brittas has also asked about the total scholarship amount allocated and actually given each year over the last five years, State-wise along with the details of the scholarship schemes for minorities which were stopped or merged in the last five years. Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar on Monday (March 16, 2026) warned of “strict action”, including FIRs, against hospitals found charging beneficiaries of state-run cashless health schemes, asserting that patients should not have to pay “a single rupee” for treatment. The Minister informed the State Assembly that the government had examined nearly 368 complaints about hospitals charging patients covered under health schemes and recovered penalties of ₹60 lakh so far. There were several complaints about hospitals allegedly demanding additional money from patients despite treatment being covered under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya schemes, he said. “Under these schemes, treatment is meant to be completely free and cashless. If any hospital charges money from patients, strict action will be taken,” he warned, noting that 12 hospitals have already been delisted from the schemes after they were found violating provisions.
