The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed the Vilathikulam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to investigate the murder of a 17-year-old Class XII girl at Kulathur in Thoothukudi, which had sparked widespread outrage. A Division Bench of Justices N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman directed the Vilathikulam DSP to record audio-video statements of the parents of the girl, and asked the parents to cooperate with the investigation. The Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police submitted a status report. The case diary files were also submitted to the court. Man arrested for allegedly molesting seven minor schoolgirls in Malad

A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting seven minor schoolgirls, aged between 14 and 15 years, in the Malvani area of Malad in Mumbai.  The accused reportedly lured the girls with the promise of taking them for a drive before molesting them on a public road. Acting swiftly, the police registered a case under sections related to molestation and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and apprehended the accused within hours. According to police, one of the victims, a 14-year-old girl from Santacruz who studies in Malvani, left home for school around 7.30 a.m. She and her classmates were standing near the school premises when the accused approached them. Before the girls could react, he allegedly got close, hugged them, made obscene gestures, and molested all seven minors. Police said the accused also allegedly told the girls to meet him regularly at the same spot and promised to take them for a drive in his car. Mumbai: The Waliv police on Wednesday booked Mamta Yadav, a schoolteacher who forced a 13-year-old girl to do 100 sit-ups while carrying her school bag for arriving late, eventually leading to her death, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Vasai schoolgirl’s death: Teacher booked for culpable homicide Kajal Gaud, a Class 6 student at Shri Hanumant Vidyamandir High School in Vasai (East), was punished on November 8, along with nearly 50 other students who had arrived late. She returned home complaining of severe pain, and her condition worsened over the following days. She died on November 14. “We are searching for Yadav and will arrest her,” said a police officer from the Waliv police station. The FIR was registered after Kajal’s father, Sikandar Gaur, filed a police complaint on Monday seeking action over her death. The Center informed the Supreme Court on Monday that the “Menstrual Hygiene Policy for School-Going Girls” approved by the Union Health Ministry is now in place. The policy, which focuses on improving the menstrual hygiene of school girls, was approved on November 2, 2024 in response to a court order from April 10, 2023. Removing barriers and promoting safe practices The program aims to address low awareness about menstruation, which often hampers school girls’ mobility and participation in daily activities. It outlines measures to ensure that female students in government and government-aided schools have access to menstrual sanitary facilities. The Centre aims to promote safe menstrual practices and environmentally friendly use of menstrual waste.
