Avatar Fire and Ash sells 2.25 lakh tickets at national chains in India

Avatar: Fire and Ash pre-sales in India are looking for momentum. The James Cameron-directed threequel has sold nearly 100K tickets at the national chains for the first day. If the film doesn’t breach it tonight, it should get there by tomorrow morning update. The sales are spread well over the weekend, with nearly 225K tickets sold. Although these numbers are big, they kinda pale in comparison with Avatar: The Way of Water. At the same point before release, Avatar 2 has sold 230K tickets at the national chains for the opening day. It eventually finished at 330K tickets. Avatar 3 seemed to have gotten some momentum during the weekend, from where 200K final sales appeared to be achievable. However, since then, it hasn’t gone that way, and now looking more likely to close around 150-165K tickets, depending on what sort of pick it gets tomorrow. Avatar 3 was expected to drop from Avatar 2, but not to this degree. For first-day sales, the film is trailing behind The Conjuring 4 this year, which sold over …

Atlas Review: Feels Like a Sci-Fi Movie You’ve Already Seen

With filmmakers churning out science fiction cinema more frequently than ever, it has become relatively rare to find a good sci-fi flick that offers something the viewers aren’t already familiar with — and Jennifer Lopez’s latest Netflix original “Atlas” is a living testament to it. Makers nowadays have become so obsessed with the idea of duplicating the success of blockbuster franchises of the genre like Star Wars that they seem to have forgotten the key ingredients of a good film, which should resonate with the viewers instead of being just a compilation of high-tech scenes with overused dialogues. In Lopez’s Atlas, you’ll find similar flaws — unimaginative concept, high predictability, and superficial portrayal of beaten themes.  Atlas Review: Another one about AI Jennifer Lopez plays an analyst in the movie The film introduces us to the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) terrorist, Harlan, who has corrupted AI bots globally and convinced them to destroy humanity. As the dance of death goes on for days and humanity retaliates, he leaves the planet with a promise to return someday and …

Top OTT Releases This Week: Murder in Mahim, Doctor Who Season 14, and More

Whether it is JioCinema’s crime mystery Murder in Mahim – based on the plight of homosexuals in India – or Apple TV’s sci-fi series Dark Matter, you’ll be glued to your screens in anticipation of what follows next. The former carefully dissects the homophobia-ridden social fabric of our society, and the latter delves deep into the endless possibilities of how our lives could have turned out. Hotstars’ Doctor Who Season 14 serves wit, humour, suspense, and mystery. With decades of material to compare with, this nascent instalment has a lot to prove. Another big pick is SonyLiv’s Undekhi, returning for a third season. It explores the dark underbelly of being drunk on wealth and power, with an influential family at focus. The first two seasons were quite a hit amongst the audience, making this revival much anticipated. If you are looking for something in non-fiction, you can go for Netflix’s newest true crime documentary, Cooking Up Murder: Uncovering the Story of César Román, which …
