Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday highlighted the Indian Navy’s indispensable role in securing commercial shipping lanes and oil tankers against emerging maritime threats, pointing out that 95 per cent of the country’s trade, including energy supplies, was conducted through sea. Defence minister Rajnath Singh (@rajnathsingh) Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of indigenously build stealth frigate, INS Taragiri, here, he said the Navy continuously maintains its presence in the Indian Ocean–whether it is the Persian Gulf or the Malacca Strait. He said that the commissioning of INS Taragiri will further increase the Navy’s power, values and commitment. As the fourth platform under Project 17A, Taragiri is a 6,670-tonne warship built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai, showcasing advanced design and engineering excellence. It comes equipped with, among others, BrahMos missiles. UP Police arrest woman for securing govt job after hiding Pakistani nationality

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district have registered an FIR against a woman for securing a job in the basic education department by allegedly concealing her Pakistani nationality, news agency PTI reported, quoting officials on Thursday. The Uttar Pradesh Police said that the case was registered at Azim Nagar Police Station on the basis of a complaint filed by the basic education department after an internal inquiry found that the accused, Mahira Akhtar alias Farzana, had obtained employment using forged documents.  Additional Superintendent of Police Anurag Singh said the accused had worked as a teacher at a primary school in the Kumhariya village. “An FIR has been registered under sections 318(4), 336, 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating and forgery. It is alleged that despite being a Pakistani national, she secured a job in the education department by using a fake residence certificate,” said Singh. 49 Bangladeshis deported by Odisha govt.; two jailed for securing passports fraudulently

Responding to a query, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Odisha Legislative Assembly that of the 51 Bangladeshi nationals identified, 49 have been returned to their homeland. The State police found 24 Bangladeshi nationals in Bhubaneswar, and 15 in Cuttack. Ganjam, Khordha and Koraput had six, three and one each. Two Bangladeshi infiltrators (one from Ganjam and one from Khordha) had obtained Indian passports using forged documents under fake identities. Cases have been registered against them, and they have been sent to judicial custody, Mr. Majhi said. The search for Bangladeshi infiltrators is continuing. The Odisha government has intensified the search for Bangladeshi nationals in different districts. Multiple arrests were made in Jagatsinghpur district of people who gave shelter to illegal Bangladeshi settlers.
