The storm around Jr NTR‘s upcoming film with director Trivikram Srinivas has grown louder, with Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman demanding that the Tamil Nadu government block the film’s release in the state over its apparent depiction of Lord Murugan. In a statement posted on X on Sunday, the NTK leader cautioned the makers that they would face severe consequences if they went ahead with what he called an attempt to twist Tamil history and culture. He also appealed to the state government, theatre owners and distributors to keep both the Tamil and Telugu versions out of Tamil Nadu screens unless changes were made. The trouble traces back to June 29, when producer Naga Vamsi announced the yet-untitled project starring Jr NTR. His announcement read, “Born in the North. Forged in the Heartland. Worshipped in the South. Now… A tale destined to belong to the universe.” Jr NTR’s own post left less to the imagination, describing the subject as “The Son of Shiva. The Pride of Parvathi. The Eternal Commander.” The poster, featuring a weapon …

NTK will go it alone in the next Lok Sabha elections: Seeman

Seeman | Photo Credit: S. Shivaraj Undeterred by the consecutive electoral setbacks, Naam Tamilar Katchi chief co-ordinator Seeman on Monday said the party will contest alone in all 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry General elections in 2029. He urged his party cadre not to get disheartened by the recent Assembly election results, which saw the party’s vote share drop by 50%. Speaking at “May 18 Tamil Genocide Day” observation near Chennai, Mr. Seeman said the voters in Tamil Nadu did not seem to want an “ideology” but preferred an “image”. “What Tamil people want is not ideology, but an image. We studied history, economics, geology, chemistry, sociology, agriculture, and literature. But people have taught us a different lesson. This is new to us. We will learn that too,” he said. Mr. Seeman said “victory” was running towards the party now and added people will “search for a candle when there is no electricity in the night”. “When there is injustice, they will search for good people. A true benevolent authoritarian enforces discipline for the greater good: Seeman

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman, in an interview with The Hindu in Chennai on Friday, shares his thoughts on his party’s Assembly election manifesto, his leadership style, and other aspects. Edited excerpts: Your party’s manifesto talks about reorganising the economy around agriculture. Are you talking about shutting down industries and factories over time or seeking balance between industrial growth and agricultural growth? I am not saying we should shut it down. But there are toxic industries that poison the land, water, and air. Those cannot be allowed to operate. If we want to provide jobs for everyone and build a stable economy, we must move towards an agriculture-centred economy. We must achieve self-sufficiency in food production. Today, many countries have collapsed because they abandoned agriculture. Meanwhile, even essential food items such as onions are imported from countries like Egypt. What pride is there in exporting cars? I am not saying shut the factories. Let them exist. But I will also create government-led industries based on local resources. These will create jobs without huge …

Around 2,000 functionaries from S Seeman‘s Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) party joined the ruling DMK on Friday in presence of party president and chief minister MK Stalin. (PTI) Seeman’s sudden provocative statements earlier this month about Dravidian movement founder EV Ramasamy (revered by all particularly Tamil Nadu-based parties as Periyar) led to dissent within his own party – a reason they said was in the decision to leave NTK and join the DMK. Noting that NTK was also formed with the ideologies of Periyar, Stalin said that Seeman was being dramatic with inflammatory speeches. “The more you get angry and create drama without a political agenda, more cadres from your party are joining us,” Stalin said to Seeman and BJP. However, Seeman’s remarks on January 9 that Periyar encouraged incestuous relationships drew immediate support from the BJP and the right wing’s proponent S Gurumurthy. Simultaneously, protests by Periyar’s …

K. Annamalai | Photo Credit: M. PERIASAMY Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay is only echoing the principles of Dravidian parties, and there is nothing new in his party’s ideological stance, BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai said here on Sunday. Mr. Annamalai arrived at the Chennai International Airport after completing a higher education programme at the University of Oxford in England. Addressing the mediapersons, he said: “Vijay has entered politics with the motive of serving the people. I welcome him. Our leaders have replied to his criticisms against the BJP. He has just finished conducting the first State-level conference of his party. But how many times has he come out since? I will respond to his criticisms once he comes to active politics. We are not afraid of anyone. The BJP is strong on its own.” Responding to a question on Udhayanidhi Stalin’s elevation as Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Annamalai said: “The DMK is increasingly becoming dependent on one family. There is no space for talent available outside the family.” While responding to a …
