Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen, and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen on Saturday jointly announced the immediate reopening of National Highways for free movement of all communities in the state and announced that the Imphal-Dimapur bus service will be resumed. NHAI officials said that the existing service lanes have become narrow due to the extension of shops, roadside eateries and other commercial establishments. As a result, vehicles including government buses and ambulances struggle to navigate the congested stretch, especially during rush hour. “The drive has been done after repeated complaints from motorists and pedestrians of traffic chaos on service lanes due to encroachments. The demolition work will be completed in a week,” a NHAI official told The Hindu. A bench of Justices Ravi Nath Tilhari and Subhendu Samanta upheld orders of the Visakhapatnam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, all of which had rejected the complaint filed by the petitioner against his advocate. “We are of view that the complaint filed by the writ petitioner against the lawyer/advocate under the Consumer Protection Act was not maintainable. The same has rightly been dismissed,” the court held in its order dated June 24. It relied upon the Supreme Court’s ruling in a case where it had held that a complaint alleging deficiency in service against advocates practicing the legal profession would not be maintainable under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The EDC has also imposed a supplementary sanction of 12 months of unpaid service against Kramnik for “the benefit of the chess community”. The ruling noted that the final 12 months of the two-year ban on Kramnik have been suspended for a three-year probationary period.
