Two persons have been detained after a clash broke out allegedly over remarks targeting a Dalit family’s wedding procession in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, police said on Saturday. Police said a scuffle ensued between the two sides. According to SP Saurabh Dixit, when the procession was near the house of Rajpal Yadav, he allegedly made a remark saying “Now, Dalits will also take out wedding processions riding a buggy”, leading to an argument. Yadav’s side allegedly turned aggressive, escalating the conflict further. Police said a scuffle ensued between the two sides. Upon receiving information, police personnel reached the spot and ensured that the procession was conducted peacefully after the incident. An FIR was registered on Friday against Rajpal Yadav, Sumit, Amit, Surendra, Avdhesh Yadav and five unidentified persons based on a complaint. The authorities have covered mosques and mazars along the routes of the traditional ‘Juta Maar Holi‘ procession in Shahjahanpur with tarpaulin sheets and announced enhanced security for the annual event, officials said on Monday. While urging people to celebrate Holi peacefully, police ensured strict action against those disrupting the procession. (PTI file) ‘Juta Mar Holi’ is a unique, centuries-old tradition celebrated in Shahjahanpur on the day of Holi, when people hurl shoes and sandals at a person dressed as a British-era ‘Laat Sahab’ and riding on a buffalo cart as the centrepiece, while playing with colours. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said, along with the deployment of over 200 magistrates, this year’s procession will see around one-and-a-half times more security personnel than last year. Shahjahanpur: A 32-year-old man, who came to attend a marriage function in Shahjahanpur district, has been shot dead over an alleged affair, police said on Saturday. SP Rajesh Dwivedi told PTI that Amit Trivedi (32) from Lakhimpur Kheri district came to attend the marriage ceremony from the bride’s side at Jeba Mukundpur village under the Nigohi police station limits. During the wedding procession on Friday night, Trivedi’s body with gunshot wound was found on a road outside the village, the SP said. People known to Trivedi told police that his in-laws were from Jeba Mukundpur, while his wife died around 2-3 years ago. Trivedi was allegedly into a relationship with a woman from his in-laws’ family, which might have led to the fatal shooting, the officer said. Police have registered a case against two accused persons – Abhishek and Aman – based on a complaint lodged by Trivedi’s uncle. Abhishek is the cousin of Trivedi’s late wife, the locals said. April IGRS rankings: Shravasti on top in grievance redressal, Shahjahanpur second

: Shravasti district topped the list followed by Shahjahanpur and Amethi for timely and effective redressal of public complaints, according to the April rankings of the CM Dashboard and IGRS (Integrated Grievance Redressal System). Shravasti has consistently ranked among the top five districts in the state for timely and quality grievance resolution. (For representation only) District magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi said Shravasti scored 131 out of 140 points in the April IGRS evaluation, achieving the highest complaint resolution ratio in Uttar Pradesh at 93.57%. According to the IGRS report dated April 25, Shahjahanpur secured second place with a 92.86% redressal rate. Amethi was third with 90.71%. Ballia and Ambedkarnagar shared the fourth spot jointly with 85.71%. Hamirpur ranked sixth, Mainpuri seventh, while Mau, Hathras, and Balrampur jointly held the eighth spot. These districts were recognized not only for resolving complaints on time but also for prioritising the quality of redressal. IAF fighter jets and transport planes, including helicopters, tested the Ganga Expressway’s emergency airstrip in Shahjahanpur on Friday afternoon(HT Photo) The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted a successful night-time combat drill on the country’s first expressway airstrip on the Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur district on Friday. The exercise, carried out between 7pm and 10pm, saw fighter jets Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, and Mirage-2000 conduct mock touch-and-go landings and tactical flight operations. “Multiple fighter jets carried out successful sorties as part of a night operational exercise. The drill involved precision landings, coordinated take-offs, and tactical operations by jets such as Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, Mirage-2000, and M-32,” Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi told PTI. Over 250 CCTV cameras surrounded the 3.5-kilometre airstrip for additional surveillance and security. “Despite strong winds and unfavourable weather during the day, the drill was completed successfully, with the night operations proving to be smoother and more efficient,” Dwivedi said.
