Basant wins high jump silver; Shahnavaz bags long jump bronze
Indian jumpers added two more medals on the fourth day of the World U20 Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA, on Saturday. Basant clinched India’s first-ever high jump medal with a silver, while Shahnavaz Khan bagged a bronze to become the first male long jumper to win a medal at this competition. Basant matched his personal best of 2.21m on his second attempt to take the second position in the final, behind Younes Ayachi of Algeria (2.21m) on the countback. Meanwhile, Shahnavaz couldn’t find his best form, but he jumped 7.84 m on his third attempt to confirm a top 3 finish in Eugene, behind Daniele Inzoli (ITA) and Mason McGroder (AUS).
