Shaik Rasheed’s story from rags to riches and what did Dhoni tell his father | Ipl News

A seven-year-old Shaik Rasheed was taken to a summer camp in Uppal for cricket with around 300 others who were double his age. His father, Shaik Balisha Vali, was soon called by the coaches and told about his son’s incredible batting abilities and persuaded to give his son full-time coaching. “Before this, I did not know he was that talented, but after this, I took him daily to practice and brought him back home,” Balisha Vali told The Indian Express. Under AG Prasad, Rasheed honed his batting skills and returned to his hometown Guntur for trials where he would get selected for the U-14 Andhra state side and also the U-16 Guntur Zilla side immediately. Soon, came a moment when the father worried if his young son was ready. It came when he was selected for an ACA academy, one of just 20 players picked. “Balisha Vali recalled consulting the head coach of the academy Krishna Rao as he was worried about his child’s welfare. MS Dhoni’s early impressions on new CSK batsman Shaik Rasheed: It’s just the start, he has the capabilities to dominate | Ipl News

After spending two seasons on the bench, opening batsman Shaik Rasheed made his debut for Chennai Super Kings in their match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. In what was the franchise’s third different opening combination, Rasheed put on 52 runs for the first wicket with Rachin Ravindra, scoring an eye-catching 27 off 19 deliveries. The decision to go with Rasheed at the top was in itself an unusual one with the franchise preferring experienced players. It has seen them receive criticism from several quarters over the years, especially over their reluctance to give opportunities to the young batsmen. Before Rasheed, their regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad too endured a similar run where he spent two seasons on the bench. In the past as well, the likes of R Sai Kishore, Baba Aparajith have all been part of the franchise without getting a game. But with CSK struggling with just one win from 6 matches, Dhoni said they had a reason to bring Rasheed. “He batted really well. He has been with us for quite a …

Arshad Shaik finishes last in C2 3000m heats, exits Games

India’s track cyclist Arshad Shaik was eliminated from the Paralympics 2024 men’s C2 3000m event in the qualifying rounds, at the Velodrome in Paris, on Friday. Arshad, who tried his hand in many sports before taking to track cycling, made his Paralympic debut in Paris as the sole cyclist in his heat. He had a decent run, completing his 1000m in 1:27.200s, 2000m in 2:53.616s and finally finishing the race with a timing of 4:20.949s. The qualifying round is all about timings, with the top two place-holders getting a chance to compete in the gold medal race and the next two getting an opportunity to compete in the bronze medal race. Unfortunately for Arshad, his timing could only land him in the last spot, confirming his exit from the competition. France’s Alexander Leaute broke the world record in the C2 category by clocking a timing of 3:24.298s and topped the qualifying round. He will race against Belgium’s Ewoud Vromant for the gold medal. Great Britain’s Matthew Robertson (3:28.373s) and Japan’s Shota Kawamoto (3:29.875s) will battle …
