New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Friday asked a high-powered committee, which was constituted to amicably resolve the grievances of the farmers who held an agitation at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana in 2024, to submit its report-cum-recommendations. Farmers’ agitation: SC asks high-powered committee to submit recommendations The farmers were protesting over a plethora of demands, including a legal guarantee on the minimum support price for their produce. A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted that the matter involving the blockade of highways, particularly at the Shambhu border, stands resolved and vehicles are plying there without any obstruction. “It seems to us that the matter is now ripe to close these proceedings. This can be done after obtaining a report from the high-powered committee containing their brief suggestions, which can then be forwarded to the appropriate authorities,” the bench said. “We impress upon the committee to submit its report-cum-recommendations…,” it added. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was taken to PIMS Jalandhar late at night, was moved to a PWD guest house in the high-security Jalandhar Cantonment area on Thursday morning as Haryana and Punjab police began evicting protesting farmers from the Shambhu and Khanauri border points, which had remained blocked for over a year. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal was detained in Mohali before being transferred to Patiala on Wednesday.(PTI) Dallewal was detained on Wednesday evening and initially taken to the Commando Training Centre in Patiala before being moved to PIMS Hospital in Jalandhar. Punjab Police cleared protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri borders on Wednesday, removing barricades, vehicles, and temporary structures that had blocked the highways for over a year. Chandigarh: A group of farmer leaders were detained by the Punjab police when they were on their way to join the ongoing farmers’ protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders. Those detained included Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The farmers were detained from Mohali after a clash with the security forces. NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday said that the issue of farmers blocking national highways in Punjab is already under consideration as it refused to entertain a fresh petition that raised hardship of residents across the Shambhu border who could not access the road due to farmers protesting over demands for a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP).
