‘We act as if nothing affects us’: Najmul Hossain Shanto on uncertainty over Bangladesh’s participation in T20 World Cup in India | Cricket News

Bangladesh’s Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said that even though the uncertainty around the team’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India is affecting the players, they are acting as if everything was ok. Shanto also slammed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director M Najmul Islam for calling former captain Tamim Iqbal an agent of India. “First of all, if you look at our World Cup results, we’ve never really played consistently good cricket. Last year, we did play well, but there were even better opportunities, and we couldn’t capitalise on them. But you’ll see that something always happens before every World Cup. I can say this from my experience of three World Cups – it does have an effect. Now, we act as if nothing affects us, that we are fully professional cricketers. You guys also understand that we are acting – it’s not easy. Of course, it would be better if these things didn’t happen, but this is partly beyond our control,” he said on Saturday. “We Need to Improve a Lot” Najmul Shanto Urges Batting, Fielding Boost After New Zealand Defeat

“We Need to Improve a Lot” Najmul Shanto Urges Batting, Fielding Boost After New Zealand Defeat

After a defeat against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 clash, Bangladesh captain Najmul Shanto has urged the side to improve in batting and Fielding departments. Kiwis secured a comfortable five-wicket victory against Najmul Shanto’s side, which means Bangladesh are out of the ICC event. Bangladesh and Pakistan both suffered two defeats in their group-stage matches against India and New Zealand. As a result, the former teams were knocked out of the Champions Trophy. Bangladesh batted first and scored 236 runs with sensible knocks from Najmul Shanto and Jaker Ali. On the other hand, New Zealand easily completed the chase with five wickets left. Najmul Shanto was disappointed after another failure in the ICC campaign. He said that the team’s hitting and defences need a lot of work because they keep making the same mistakes. “It’s very disappointing as a captain and I think if you look at our bowling unit last couple of years, we did a great job. We have some quality fast bowlers and spinners. We always wanted one wrist spinner …

‘Upbeat’ Bangladesh captain Shanto confident about home-like conditions to help his team against India in Champions Trophy | Cricket News

On Wednesday as Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto sat for his first media briefing ahead of the Champions Trophy, he spent almost half it answering about their pacers. Out of those a majority were around Nahid Rana, their first 150kmph fast bowler, whose workload is the single most topic of discussion among cricket nerds back home. Shanto would give assurance that Rana is as excited and waiting to have a go against India’s top-order. But not until they saw Rana at the ICC Academy nets did there was a collective sigh of relief. Of the eight teams in the Champions Trophy that also includes Afghanistan, which is making its maiden appearance in the tournament, it is Bangladesh that start as rank outsiders. Ranked No 9 in the rankings, they just sneaked into the tournament on the expense of Sri Lanka via better run-rate at the 2023 World Cup. For the first time since 2007, Bangladesh have arrived for an ICC event sans Shakib Al Hasan, their estranged hero who was not so long ago the …

Bangladesh squad for Champions Trophy 2025: Shakib Al Hasan out, Najmul Shanto named captain | Cricket News

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday announced their 15-member squad for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan and the UAE. The Tigers are slated to open their campaign against India in Dubai on February 20, and have put forward big call by removing veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from the team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Suspended for an illegal bowling action in the County Championship in September, the 37-year-old Shakib had recently undergone a second reassessment test in Chennai on December 21. However, with the BCB stating that the star all-rounder failed to clear the test for a second time, Shakib’s chances as a pure batter was deemed insufficient to make the cut. Wicket-keeper batter Litton Das was also snubbed from the 15-member squad while veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah for another ICC event appearance. Bangladesh’s best performance at the ICC level came in the 2017 edition of the Champions Trophy where they reached the semi-finals before falling against India.
