Harjinder Kaur wins silver, shatters three national records
India’s Harjinder Kaur delivered one of the finest performances of her career to clinch the silver medal in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Tuesday. The experienced lifter finished with a combined total of 227kg (101kg in snatch and 126kg in clean and jerk), setting new national records in all three categories while securing India’s latest medal on the weightlifting platform. Canada’s C. Simoneau claimed the gold medal with a Games record total of 240kg, while Australia’s N.P. Hayman settled for bronze after lifting 218kg. Harjinder began the competition confidently, making no mistakes in the snatch. She comfortably cleared 95kg with her opening attempt before following it up with successful lifts of 99kg and 101kg. Her final lift not only improved her personal best but also established a new national record in the snatch. Heading into the clean and jerk, Harjinder remained firmly in medal contention.
