‘Lot of things need rethink’

3 min readUpdated: Apr 13, 2026 09:10 AM IST Mumbai Indians’ indifferent start to the IPL 2026 season with three successive defeats, including a second straight loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium after a gap of 10 years, has left captain Hardik Pandya scrambling for answers. After getting thumped by Rajasthan Royals in an 11-over contest in Guwahati, MI’s bowlers came under the scanner yet again on Sunday night after defending champions RCB hammered a colossal 240 for four, their highest total at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai’s chase was worsened after an injury forced Rohit Sharma to retire hurt early on, while Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma failed to up the scoring rates. Despite a late blitz from Sherfane Rutherford and skipper Hardik, Mumbai fell short by 18 runs, meaning they have now lost three in succession starting with a defeat to Delhi Capitals away from home. ‘It’s just small margins for us’

3 min readApr 13, 2026 08:15 AM IST The Mumbai Indians suffered their third consecutive defeat of IPL 2026 on Sunday, losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. One of the major concerns for the five-time champions so far has been the lack of wickets; their overall tally stands at 15 with the talismanic Jasprit Bumrah yet to open his account. Middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford, however, brushed aside those worries, adding that the opposition batsmen have had the upper hand in the team’s matches. “It’s definitely not a concern. If we be honest, other teams bat well. I think we need to give credit where it’s due. I think the guys bat well.” “As I said, it’s just a small margin for us. We are probably two fields changing or something in the field. I don’t think it’s much to do with our bowlers. I think it’s just about executing and getting better,” Rutherford said in the post-match presentation. ALSO READ | If Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal won’t get …

‘I just wanna go home’: Daren Sammy pleads as Iran War traps West Indies in India after World Cup exit | Cricket News

3 min readMar 5, 2026 05:26 PM IST West Indies head coach Daren Sammy was left angered by the team getting grounded in India due to the Iran War that has shut down transit hubs in the Middle East. West Indies’ campaign at the T20 World Cup ended in the Super 8 stage with a defeat to the Indian cricket team at Eden Gardens. Since then, the team has not been able to leave India. In a series of posts on his X handle, Sammy lamented not being able to go home. “I just wanna go home,” Sammy wrote on X on Thursday. He followed it up with another post, writing: “At least an update, tell us something. Today tmw, next week. It’s been 5 days.” Sammy’s plea on social media comes just days after Cricket West Indies (CWI) had said that it was working “closely” with the International Cricket Council (ICC), governmental authorities and airline partners to secure the “earliest possible safe travel arrangements” for the West Indies team that was marooned in India. …

‘Sometimes you’ve got to throw stats out the window’: Shai Hope backs Sherfane Rutherford after match-turning 76 against England at T20 World Cup | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 12, 2026 09:05 AM IST For all the talk about numbers in modern T20 cricket, Shai Hope believes some players defy statistical judgement. After Sherfane Rutherford’s decisive 76 off 42 balls helped the West Indies beat England by 30 runs, at the Wankhede Stadium, the captain made it clear that impact matters more than averages. “Sometimes we’ve got to throw stats out the window,” Hope said at the post-match press conference. “If you ask any bowler in world cricket, if they see Sherfane Rutherford at the other end, they’re going to feel under pressure. That in itself speaks for itself.” Rutherford came into the game with modest T20 returns, his average hovering in the low 20s despite flashes of brilliance across franchise leagues. But on a surface that offered grip and demanded composure, his innings provided both momentum and stability at a crucial phase. Hope pointed to something deeper than numbers – preparation. “He’s always been a hard worker, especially with his batting. He’s very diligent with the way he goes about …

‘We were probably a little bit careful’: Harry Brook reacts to England’s 30-run loss to West Indies in T20 World Cup | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 12, 2026 08:38 AM IST England captain Harry Brook admitted his side were “probably a little bit careful” in their chase of 197 runs after falling short by 30 runs against the West Indies in a crucial T20 World Cup group clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Chasing nearly 200, England believed the target was within reach at the halfway stage. However, the expected dew never arrived, the pitch did not quicken under the lights, and the West Indies’ spinners tightened their grip through the middle overs. “We thought it was chasable, definitely,” Brook said at the post-match press conference. “We obviously planned for dew, and it didn’t quite get as dewy as we thought. It didn’t quite slide onto the bat as much as we were expecting.” The turning point, according to Brook, was not panic but hesitation. “One thing I would say is we were probably a little bit careful. Chasing nearly 200 is always a big ask. Like I said, we thought the pitch would get a little …

Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting lauded captain Shreyas Iyer for his outstanding 97-run knock against the Gujarat Titans, reserving special praise for his decision to bring on Vijaykumar Vyshak which the Australian said was the turning point of the match. Vyshak conceded 10 from his first two overs before yielding 18 from the 19th over with GT needing 27 off the last over. The Shubman Gill-led unit ultimately failed to get the required runs and PBKS won by 11 runs. “I was sitting there, I was like, they need 13-14 runs an over. Sent the message out to Shreyas, asking what do you want to do? He said straight away, just get Vyshak out there. He’ll nail a couple of overs at Yorkers and we will close the game. And you were the one that changed the game, so congratulations,” Ponting said to Iyer in a vide posted on the PBKS X handle. He also praised the young Indian batters like Priyansh Arya who has put the league on notice with his performance in Tuesday’s match against Gujarat Titans. Arya made a blistering 47 off 23 deliveries with his innings going a long way in helping the Punjab Kings post a massive 243 against the Titans. “There’s great depth here (in Indian cricket)_. There always has been. And I think they’re getting the chance to show their skills on a world stage. They are super confident. They’ve had almost the advantage of growing up with IPL, being under pressure from early stages in their career. It’s brilliant to see how fearless they are with their cricket and especially (while playing for) Indian cricket (team),” Stoinis said.
