A 38-year-old man was shot dead in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district, following which police registered a case against a Shiv Sena councillor and 15 others, an official said on Friday. The incident took place in Kalamnuri town on Wednesday night, PTI reported.  Victim shot during dispute According to the police, Lukman Siddiqui was shot during a clash with a group of people, including Shiv Sena councillor Kishore Bhalerao, over an old dispute. Siddiqui later succumbed to his injuries. Police said they are investigating the number of rounds fired during the attack. Case registered against 16 accused A case has been registered against Bhalerao and 15 others. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused, the official said. On Monday, Mhatre and three associates, who were also arrested in the case, were sent to judicial custody. The Thane city police presented Mhatre before a court via video conferencing citing possible law and order problems. “Mhatre and his three associates were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. Shiv Sena candidate Saeed Khan on Monday defeated Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) nominee Vivek Navandar by 83 votes in the election to the Parbhani-Hingoli local authorities constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, an election official said told news agency PTI.  The counting of votes for the June 18 elections to 11 seats in the legislative council was conducted on Monday. Voting held in 11 constituencies The biennial elections were initially announced for 17 seats, including one bypoll. However, polling was required in only 11 constituencies after candidates of the ruling Mahayuti alliance secured unopposed victories in six seats. The Mahayuti alliance comprises the BJP, the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the NCP faction headed by Sunetra Pawar. Saeed Khan secures decisive victory In the Parbhani-Hingoli local authorities constituency, Khan secured 242 votes, while Navandar received 159 votes.
