Shivakumar, who has been in Delhi over the last two days, said on Wednesday night that he was trying to meet Modi and would attend the NITI Aayog meeting as well. “I am participating in the NITI Aayog meeting. The PM had posted a congratulatory message on social media soon after I became the CM and he has said that he will extend full cooperation. We will work together,” he said. In 2024 then CM Siddaramaiah boycotted the NITI Aayog governing council meeting as a mark of protest against the alleged neglect of the state in the Union budget. “We don’t feel Kannadigas are heard, and hence there is no point in attending the NITI Aayog meeting,” Siddaramaiah had said on social media. Last year, the CM did not …

Shivakumar set to take oath as Karnataka CM in lowkey ceremony | Bangalore News

Karnataka is set to witness the oath-taking ceremony of the 34th Chief Minister of the state, D K Shivakumar, 64, and the first batch of around 10 ministers —including Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra Siddaramaiah, 45, an MLC — on Wednesday. The oath ceremony will be held with minimal fanfare at the state Lok Bhavan with a crowd of around 2,000 in attendance. Shivakumar opted for a lowkey swearing-in at the behest of the Congress leadership, which decided on May 26 to ask Siddaramaiah, 78, the popular CM of the state, to make way for the younger Shivakumar. The probable list of 10 ministers who are likely to be finalised for oath taking along with Shivakumar include several seniors from the Siddaramaiah cabinet and two young ministers — Priyank Kharge (a Dalit and son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge) and Krishna Byre Gowda (Vokkaliga). The Congress is also expected to choose between veteran K H Muniyappa and his daughter Roopakala Shashidhar (both Dalits), who is a fresh ministerial aspirant, and Yathindra Siddaramaiah as its youth choices, sources …

Siddaramaiah in national fray, appointed to top Congress panel as he makes way for Shivakumar as Karnataka CM

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has been made a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s apex decision-making body, days after he relinquished the Karnataka chief minister’s post to clear the way for DK Shivakumar. Last month, the high command had reportedly offered Siddaramaiah a central role in the party. (PTI) Siddaramaiah, 77, resigned as chief minister on May 28, saying he had been asked by the Congress high command to step down to make way for his deputy, Shivakumar or DKS. The move ended a prolonged power tussle dating back to the party’s 2023 win, when both leaders had staked a claim to the top job. Last month, the high command had reportedly offered Siddaramaiah a central role in the party. The CWC berth now moves in that direction. Shivakumar, 64, was unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party, paving the way for him to become chief minister, with the swearing-in held on June 3 in Bengaluru. Notably, Siddaramaiah himself proposed Shivakumar’s name at the CLP meeting, while G Parameshwara seconded …

Amid RCB victory celebrations, Karnataka CM-designate DK Shivakumar questions why IPL final wasn’t held in Bengaluru Powered by Virat Kohli’s fastest IPL half-century, RCB completed a comfortable chase of 156 to beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat and secured a second successive IPL crown. As celebrations broke out across Karnataka, Shivakumar said RCB fans in Bengaluru had missed out on witnessing the title triumph in their home city. “The RCB match was supposed to be held in Bengaluru. We have been wronged. Due to politics, they held it at a different venue. I won’t speak much on it,” Shivakumar said while reacting to the venue of the final.
