Can’t take anything for granted, can’t just turn up & win matches: Shreyas Iyer

3 min readJun 26, 2026 11:13 PM IST India captain Shreyas Iyer has sent a strong message to his team after they started the tour of UK with a defeat to Ireland in Belfast on Friday. Playing their first T20 International since they won the T20 World Cup in March, India were humbled by the hosts Ireland by 34 runs. It means, Iyer’s tenure as India’s T20 captain started with a defeat. Set 183 to win, India were all out for 148 in 18.5 overs with Abhishek Sharma being the lone batsman to put up a fight. “I think you can’t take anything for granted. You can’t just turn up and win matches. You have to work hard and see to it that you’re in that moment. Like I mentioned earlier, you’ve got to stay in the present and see to it that if you’ve got that opportunity to squeeze the opponent, we’ve got to do that. And yeah, never take any moment or situation lightly,” Iyer, who took over from Suryakumar Yadav said. Having …

‘He was bowling on the sixth stump’: Ex-India cricketer blasts Shivam Dube’s Zimbabwe performance | Cricket News

2 min readFeb 27, 2026 07:15 PM IST Former Indian batter Kris Srikkanth criticised Shivam Dube’s bowling and said that India would need to look into their sixth bowler options going forwards. On Thursday, India put up a mammoth total of 256 at Chepauk against a Zimbabwe bowling attack that had little to no answers for an underfiring Indian batting lineup. When put into bat, Zimbabwe initially struggled against the trio of Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya but then two overs were given to Shivam Dube. The all-rounder was taken apart for 26 in the first and then 20 in his second – a poor performance with the ball which was punctuated by his lack of control. Srikkanth said that it was concerning to see Dube bowl the way he did. “I don’t think bowling is a concern. It was a good batting track. My only concern is the sixth bowler. Did you see where Dube was bowling? He was bowling on the sixth stump. I have not seen bowling like that,” he …

‘Morne has helped me a lot’: Shivam Dube reveals role of Morkel’s ‘small small tips’ in improving his bowling | Cricket News

Shivam Dube may have had a forgettable outing in the third T20I against Australia but it was pretty much the opposite for the big all-rounder in the fourth match on Thursday. While he did concede 20 runs in two overs, Dube also took the crucial wickets of Australia captain Mitchell Marsh and Tim David, both big-hitters who could’ve hurt India after the visitors were restricted to a score of 167/8. Dube said after the match that captain Suryakumar Yadav, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel had devised a good plan for him to execute while bowling. He also said that Morkel, who had played 18 international matches in Australia during his stellar playing career, gave him some tips which proved handy. “When I got the chance I knew that I had to bowl, especially Morne, Gauti bhai and Surya prepared a good plan for me. Morne also helped me a lot. He gave some small, small tips which made my bowling better,” Dube told reporters after India’s 48-run win in …
