A 53-year-old man was shot dead by some armed men while he was working on a paddy field in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Saturday (July 11, 2026) evening, officials said. Haolal Singsit, a resident of Govajang village in the Kuki-majority district, died on the spot, while his wife, Nemneikim Singsit, escaped unhurt. Villagers told officials that they heard around 20 rounds of gunfire around 4 p.m. on Saturday (July 11). Security forces rushed to the area, and the body has been recovered. A repeat offender wanted in multiple theft cases was shot in the leg by police after he attacked a constable with a knife and an iron rod while attempting to evade arrest near Bongulur Gate on the Outer Ring Road on Tuesday night. According to the police, a team from Nalgonda district acted on a tip-off that the accused, identified as Bhushmi Srikanth, was travelling in a goods carrier vehicle. The team tried to arrest him near Adibatla. Police said Srikanth attacked a Nalgonda police constable with a knife and an iron rod before trying to flee. In response, the police opened fire, injuring him in the leg and bringing the chase to an end. Srikanth, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was shifted to a hospital in Vanasthalipuram for treatment before being taken to Nalgonda for further investigation.
