Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday announced that the government has approved the use of 100 per cent ethanol as fuel, a move aimed at reducing India’s dependence on imported fossil fuels and accelerating the transition towards cleaner and alternative energy sources. The minister made the announcement during a press conference in Nagpur while highlighting key achievements of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the past 12 years. In Kadayanallur, the village in Tamil Nadu where my relatives and many other Tamil Muslims in Singapore trace their roots, dried chilli or chilli powder was typically used in curries and gravies. This style of sambal was something Kitengi Ma encountered and adopted in Singapore. It entered our family kitchen three generations ago. From her Teochew neighbours, she also learnt about different noodles: kway teow (flat rice noodles made with a bit of tapioca for their bouncy texture), thin rice vermicelli, egg noodles and much more. My aunts say she favoured the springy, soft texture of rice vermicelli, allowing it to replace rice in certain dishes like Biryani and Kurma, which were typically eaten with rice before this replacement.  Over time, she began improvising out of availability. What started as a base of shallots, mustard seeds, dried chilli and curry leaves evolved with lemongrass, pandan and tofu. Maharashtra tops in passenger and commercial vehicle sales: SIAM data

Maharashtra emerged as the state with the highest number of passenger and commercial vehicles sold in the September quarter this fiscal year, while Uttar Pradesh topped in the two- and three-wheeler categories during the period, according to data by industry body SIAM. In Q2 (2025-26), 10.39 lakh units of passenger vehicles were sold in the country, with western zone leading the sales with 3.44 lakh units, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said. In the passenger vehicles segment, Maharashtra witnessed sales of 1,31,822 units at 12.7 per cent share, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 1,00,481 units (9.7 per cent) and Gujarat at third at 87,901 units (8.5 per cent). Karnataka was fourth with 76,422 units (7.4 per cent) and Kerala fifth at 69,609 units (6.7 per cent), as per the data. In the commercial vehicles category, 2.40 lakh units were sold across India during the second quarter of the current fiscal year, SIAM said, adding that western zone led the sales with 92,000 units.
