Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday requested the Akal Takht jathedar to allow ‘live telecast’ of his appearance before the Akal Takht Secretariat after being summoned on January 15. The Punjab BJP and Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal Wednesday criticised the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh over the Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale flag row. The Punjab BJP also accused its counterpart in Himachal of not understanding Sikh sentiments. Recently, some videos went viral showing the alleged removal of flags bearing the image of Bhindranwale from the motorcycles of a group of youths from Punjab by some local residents in Himachal Pradesh. Bhindranwale was a pro-Khalistani militant killed during Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in June 1984. “Videos from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, had surfaced on social media, showing some Himachal Police officials removing the image of Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale from the Nishan Sahib (triangular-shaped Sikh holy flag) and disrespecting both the sacred flag and the image,” said Damdami Taksal in a statement.
