Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member and columnist Kiranjot Kaur has strongly reacted after Panjab University, Chandigarh, cancelled a lecture instituted in memory of Master Tara Singh, who was her maternal grandfather. “The Western border of India is the contribution of Master Tara Singh; otherwise, the border of India would have been near Delhi. It is shocking to know Panjab University has cancelled a Master Tara Singh Memorial Lecture, a purely academic activity, in the University today,” she wrote on Facebook. “The only Panjabi leader who fought for Panjab when cow belt leaders ditched it is not being recognised for his contribution in a Panjabi institution. Shameful.” Former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi was invited as the chief guest, while pro-Khalistan leader and former Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Maan was to be the guest of honour.
