The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The day Satwik-Chirag defeated World No 1s Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho on way to the Singapore Open Super 750 title, silent preparations were ongoing in Hyderabad and Mumbai, and wherever Mathias Boe was hunched over his laptop. The backroom analysis focused on how to prepare for the same Koreans the next time. Defeated in straight games, Seo-Kim are expected to hit the drawing board with Korean doubles great and legendary coach Park Joo-bong, and ensure Seo would figure ways to foil the strategy of being pushed to the back-court by the Indians. Team Satwik-Chirag was readying to counter these counter-strikes. ‘Four eyes see better than two,’ went Matthias Boe’s announcement on Instagram of “secret” intelligence-sharing that has admittedly happened behind the scenes. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and their Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her have all been in cahoots with Boe for a month now, plotting against the best names in men’s doubles from Korea, Indonesia, China, Taiwan and Malaysia. Coach Mathias Boe reunites with Satwik-Chirag

The Danish legend and Olympic medallist Mathias Boe has rejoined Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s team as a consultant. Boe, who had parted ways with the Indian pair after their unexpected quarter-final exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics two years ago, returned to the setup as a consultant. The 45-year-old Boe himself announced his return on social media, stating that he started working with Rankireddy and Shetty just before the 2026 Thomas Cup, where India bagged a bronze medal. “Since I now have a bit more time on my hands, pre Thomas Cup I have secretly started working with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty again,” he wrote in a post. “This time as a consultant and sparring for Tan Kim Her, where my focus is going to be on the tactical aspects and match analyses, while coach Tan will stay full time with them,” added Boe. Boe revealed that he’ll continue working with Rankireddy and Shetty for the upcoming 2026 BWF World Championships in Delhi and will feature in the coaching …

PV Sindhu wards off World No 6 Putri Kusuma Wardani with gritty net play in Singapore Open Super 750

PV Sindhu wards off World No 6 Putri Kusuma Wardani with gritty net play in Singapore Open Super 750

Not making World No 1 – yet – never interfered with Sindhu’s claims to greatness. So, nine years after the 30-year-old reached the pinnacle of her ranking at World No 2, in April of 2017, a clamber back into the Top 10s, can be viewed from two different lenses. The flattering way to see it, is her longevity and drive to stay in the mix, even as a generational transition is stuttering towards permanence in women’s singles. Avenging her loss to Indonesian Putri Kusuma Wardini from last year’s World Championship, Sindhu defeated the 23-year-old 21-17, 21-18 quite comfortably at the Super 750 Singapore Open. It gives her a second chance to cement her place in Top 10 this year after a brief week in March. Besides seedings leading up to World Championships at home, there’s no material edge a Top 10 spot offers. But at this stage of her career, a good seeding at the home event could be make-or-break for Sindhu to avoid top 3 early. These things didn’t use to matter to the …

Singapore Open Super 750: In gutsy loss to World No. 2, lessons in taming drift for young Unnati Hooda | Badminton News

Singapore Open Super 750: In gutsy loss to World No. 2, lessons in taming drift for young Unnati Hooda | Badminton News

PV Sindhu, in her prime, did a good job of adjusting to the court drift conditions. The sheer discipline and patience needed to master conditions by big names like Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal or HS Prannoy and Satwik-Chirag are hugely underrated. It is something the new generation, beginning to play elite events, will need to decipher. Unnati Hooda came up against World No 2 Wang Zhi Yi on Wednesday at the Singapore Open Super 750. She was promptly schooled in how the changing winds can completely determine your destiny if you don’t know how to demystify the drift. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO “It was a big lesson for Unnati in how to play in big arenas because the drift helped her a lot at first, and then went against her later. Hopefully she learns with experience by playing repeatedly with the big names,” coach and father Upkar Hooda explained after the 21-13, 9-21, 15-21 loss in the 56-minute defeat to the current top Chinese. Chirag Shetty returns to international action playing two tweeners in win | Badminton News

Chirag Shetty has had a tough few months, dealing with injuries and alongwith the bereaved Satwiksairaj Rankireddy who lost his father, the duo are going through perhaps the toughest phase of their careers. But returning to action at the Singapore Open Super 750, Shetty made up for many days spent away from the high of competitive action, as the Indian aces defeated Malaysian Choong Hon Jian and Haikal Muhammad 21-16, 21-13 on their return. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO Shetty who had gone through a torrid time recovering from back issues, looked sharp alongside Satwik, and even packed in two moments of magic during the Round 1 opener. Story continues below this ad In a video that has since become viral, Shetty is seeing on the left side during a parallel defense, and in a neat sumo squat, with sharp low returns. He sends a side swat on his right and picks the next one as a tweener, frim inches off the ground with minimal movement of his eyes and stance. Shetty later told the Indian …

Chirag Shetty’s ‘between-the-legs shot’ at Singapore Open on return from injury

Chirag Shetty’s ‘between-the-legs shot’ at Singapore Open on return from injury

The Indian badminton men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty returned to action after a two-month injury lay-off at the 2025 Singapore Open Super 750 on Wednesday. The former world No 1 pair registered a comfortable 21-16, 21-13 win over Malaysia’s Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal of Malaysia in just 37 minutes to mark their return to competitive play. Shetty stole the limelight on return, with a brilliant tweener in the second game. A tweener refers to a shot played from between-the-legs. Pushed onto a defensive mode in a trilling rally while leading 21-16, 11-6, Shetty pulled out a stellar between-the-leg shot after three brilliant returns from Rankireddy. Shetty’s tweener was returned by the Malaysian pair, but the shot threw them off as Shetty and Rankireddy soon won the rally to pocket the point. Rankireddy and Shetty were last seen in action at the 2025 All England Open Super 1000 in March earlier this year, where they had retired midway from a match after Shetty picked up a back injury. The duo …

Controversial line calls at Singapore Open badminton hurts Indians but coaches advise Anmol Kharb and Kiran George to move on | Badminton News

Controversial line calls at Singapore Open badminton hurts Indians but coaches advise Anmol Kharb and Kiran George to move on | Badminton News

Tai Tzu Ying would wander away and simply resume the next rally quickly. Akane Yamaguchi wouldn’t even acknowledge that a point was lost and wear her oblivious expression. Even Carolina Marin, the tempestuous Spaniard, would grin cheekily, and carry on battling. If a line call did not go their way – as happens umpteen times in badminton with its non TV courts – they seldom argued or let it mess with their equilibrium. “Just forget it and move on. There’s nothing you can do,” is Pullela Gopichand’s pithy advice to all Indians. On Tuesday he was courtside to deliver it himself to young Anmol Kharb, at the Singapore Open as she lost 21-11, 24-22 to Chen Yufei. Story continues below this ad India copped an unfair few on a terribly fraught Tuesday. Badminton, even at the highest levels – Singapore Open is a tier just below the top – does not offer review technology on all courts, and it’s especially aggravating in early rounds with side courts on non TV days. In the first round …

Satwik-Chirag after 1st round loss at Singapore Open

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a shock defeat to world no. 34 Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestegaard in the opening round of the Singapore Open Super 750 Tuesday. The Indian pair – the world no. 1 and the top seed – were handed out a 20-22, 18-21 defeat in 47 minutes. After their defeat – their second straight first-round exit from the World Tour event after they fell to Akira Koga-Taichi Saito in the opener in 2023 – Satwik lamented that they could not win the first game from a strong position of 20-18 and conceded the lead to the Dane pair, who were on a four-point spree to claim a 22-20 win. “We never really got going,” Satwik told BWF after the defeat. “We should have finished it off when we were leading the first game 20-18. Made some unforced errors and never recovered,” he added. This was Satwik and Chirag’s first first-round on the World Tour exit since November last year when they lost to Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang …
