Image used for representation The Sivaganga POCSO Court sentenced a 51-year-old astrologer to 200 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting two minor girls in 2021. Ramakrishnan was an astrologer from Managiri in Sivaganga district. In November 2021, a woman who consulted him mentioned that her two daughters, aged 17 and 14, were not performing well in their studies. Ramakrishnan claimed that performing a remedy would help the girls study better. Believing him, the woman took her daughters to his house. He then asked the mother to stay in one room and took the girls to another under the pretext of performing the ritual. He sexually assaulted the minors and threatened that their parents would die if they reported the incident. Out of fear, the girls did not disclose it at the time. Two years later, both girls fell ill. Hospital tests revealed that they had contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Ajith Kumar, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) that the alleged theft of jewelry, on the basis of which the victim was detained, has been closed. Justice S. Srimathy, during the course of the hearing in the bail petitions filed by the accused police personnel, asked the CBI the status of the alleged theft of jewellery case and whether the allegations were true. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the loss of lives in a road accident near Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu. At least 11 persons were killed on Sunday when two state-transport buses collided head-on at Vairavanpatti near Tirupattur on the Tirupattur-Pillayarpatti route, approximately 15 km away from Karaikudi. “The loss of lives due to a mishap in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon,” Modi said in a post on X. Tamil Nadu: 12 killed, 40 injured after two buses crash in Sivaganga

At least 12 people were killed and more than 40 injured in a devastating road accident near Kummangudi, close to Kundrakkudi in Sivaganga district, when two Tamil Nadu government buses collided head-on on Sunday evening, an official said.  The impact was so severe that several passengers died on the spot, while many others were trapped inside the mangled buses. Local residents rushed to the scene, helping police pull out the injured as rescue operations continued late into the evening. According to initial information, both buses were travelling in opposite directions when they collided on a narrow stretch of road. Police officials said they are examining whether over-speeding, poor visibility or driver fatigue contributed to the crash. The injured have been shifted to hospitals in Sivaganga and Karaikudi, where emergency teams are attending to multiple cases of fractures, head injuries and trauma.
