‘Redundant use of resources’: Walkers Association opposes skating rink in Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park | Bangalore News

The Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association (CPWA) Sunday opposed the Karnataka government’s plan to construct a skating rink within Bal Bhavan premises inside Cubbon Park in Bengaluru. Recently, the Jawahar Bal Bhavan Society in association with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) mooted a plan to build a skating rink on half acre of land at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore. S Umesh, President, CPWA, said a skating rink was entirely unnecessary in Cubbon Park. “A high-quality skating rink already exists at the Sri Kanteerava Stadium, situated just across the road from Cubbon Park. Constructing a second rink within the lung space of the city is a redundant use of resources that offers no additional public benefit while causing significant environmental harm,” he added. “For years, Cubbon Park has faced the creeping threat of urbanisation. The CPWA views this latest proposal as another step towards the systematic concretisation of one of Bengaluru’s last remaining green bastions. Every square metre of concrete laid is a square metre of earth lost to the city’s …

He helped the U.S. win team bronze at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games but struggled in the men’s competition, then used that bitter disappointment as fuel to win the men’s competition and help to deliver team gold four years later at the 2022 Beijing Games.
