These financial implications were highlighted in a letter to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Bandula Dissanayake, Sri Lanka Cricket secretary, told The Indian Express. Though the month-long tournament kick-starts at the Singhalese Sports Club here on Saturday with Pakistan taking on The Netherlands, it is the Pakistan government’s decision not to stop their team from playing against India that has emerged as the talking point in Sri Lanka. The SLC has announced an 18-member Sri Lanka Squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan, which is set to begin on January 07. The squad will be led by Dasun Shanaka, who has been named captain for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. However, several players who are part of the Sri Lanka Preliminary squad have missed out on the Pakistan series, including Pavan Rathnayake, Sahan Arachchige, Milan Rathnayake, Pramod Madushan, Dilshan Madushanka, and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. Shanaka, a former white ball formats captain of Sri Lanka, left Sinhalese Sports Club’s three-day match against Moors Sports Club in the Major League Tournament after playing the first two days. It has now been alleged that match referee Wendell Labrooy had been led to believe that Shanaka had a concussion to get a substitute approved. “SSC (Shanaka’s first-class club) would probably be conducting their own inquiry as well,” SLC CEO Ashely De Silva told ESPNCricinfo. Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) confirmed that the upcoming Lanka Premier League 2024 will be played with its full roster of matches and feature all five teams.
