SMAT 2025-26 Super League: Kumar Kushagra leads Jharkhand to record-breaking win over Punjab; Tanmay Agarwal-Aman Rao pair help Hyderabad rout Mumbai | Cricket News

When Jharkhand’s Pankaj Kumar flicked Ayush Goyal for a six off the first ball of the 19th over to take his team to victory at the DY Patil Academy ground in Ambi, he was perhaps unaware of the piece of history he had created as he walked towards his partner, Kumar Kushagra, at the other end. The strike over fine leg had helped Jharkhand chase down Punjab’s mammoth target of 236 runs with 11 balls to spare and six wickets in hand, thereby breaking the record for the biggest run chase in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history, going past Mumbai’s 230 runs against Andhra in 2024. It was also their eighth straight win in this year’s competition, having won each of their seven matches in the group phase. The foundation to the chase was laid by captain Ishan Kishan, who made 47 runs off 23 balls, putting on 60 runs in 29 balls with Kushagra before falling to Ramandeep Singh. Five flights in eight days: How two Uttar Pradesh players shuttled between Mumbai and Kolkata to play two tournaments for their state’s teams | Cricket News

On most mornings last week, Prashant Veer and his Uttar Pradesh teammate Sameer Rizvi woke up in different cities than they were in the previous day. Often, without having enough time to register where they were, they had to head into another match. Mumbai to Kolkata, back to Mumbai, back to Kolkata, then once more to Mumbai before returning to Kolkata – a blur of airports, taxis and hotel corridors stitched together by matches they were expected to perform in. For 20-year-old Veer and 21-year-old Rizvi – also captain of the state under-23 team – it was a stress test. The merry-go-round started on November 25 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where UP played the home team in the U-23 State A Trophy quarter-final. Veer smashed 61 off 22 balls and took 4 for 75 to help eliminate Mumbai from the 50-over tournament. The following morning, they were on the other side of India as UP began their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 (SMAT) campaign at Jadavpur University ground in Kolkata. A different format, different conditions, …

Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre breaks Rohit Sharma’s world record with SMAT ton, becomes youngest to hit century in all formats | Cricket News

Ayush Mhatre is fast becoming the next all-format batting sensation to emerge from the Mumbai stables. The 18-year-old affirmed the same on Friday in Lucknow when he broke Rohit Sharma’s world record with an unbeaten century in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Chasing a 193-run target against Vidarbha at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium B in Lucknow, Mhatre unfurled carnage with eight fours and as many sixes to steer his side home by seven wickets and 13 balls to spare.  The right-hander was only featuring in his 9th senior-level T20 match after having made his debut in the format in the IPL 2025 season earlier this year for the Chennai Super Kings. Earlier in October, the batting prodigy was retained by the five-time champions ahead of the impending IPL 2026 auction in December. Mhatre’s expanding range and maturity have been noted quite early, as he is likely to lead India at the upcoming U-19 World Cup in January 2026.
