3 min readJul 10, 2026 11:47 PM IST At 189/3 after 44 overs, India appeared to have seized control of the opening day of the one-off Test at Lord’s. But a brief stoppage after Harmanpreet Kaur required treatment on her left arm disrupted India’s rhythm, offering England a chance to reset. The hosts capitalised immediately. Issy Wong, who had already broken the 64-run stand between Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues before lunch, claimed the wicket England desperately needed four balls after play resumed, dismissing Smriti Mandhana for 83. From a position where they looked set to dominate, India lost their last six wickets for 96 runs, handing England a route back into the contest. Mandhana was the architect of India’s recovery after early setbacks, producing an innings that blended her trademark fluency with patience. After Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia fell cheaply to leave India at 24/2, the left-hander assumed responsibility alongside Rodrigues. She countered England’s early movement by punishing anything overpitched and pulling confidently whenever the seamers dropped short. Crisp drives through cover, authoritative …

Shafali Verma’s all-round show, Smriti Mandhana’s 74 and Shree Charani 4/19 give India big win

India made it two wins from two at the 2026 T20 World Cup with a comfortable 95-run victory over the Netherlands at Headingley on Wednesday. But the win was overshadowed a bit by an injury to off-spinner Shreyanka Patil, who twisted her right ankle after delivering the first ball of her spell in the sixth over. Unable to put weight on the leg, she received lengthy treatment before being stretchered off in a buggy. Before the setback, though, Harmanpreet Kaur had said her side had to improve their powerplay performances with both bat and ball. The team responded emphatically. The opening duo of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma answered the call by putting on a 115-run opening stand. Mandhana set the tone from the outset, producing a series of trademark cover drives whenever the Dutch seamers overpitched. Heather Siegers, Iris Zwilling and Isabel van der Woning all struggled to find consistent lengths. The left-hander capitalised on the loose deliveries. Shafali initially played second fiddle before finding her rhythm. Once she settled, the right-hander punished anything …

“If you ask Pakistan who they would be most worried about, it is Smriti Mandhana”: Nasser Hussain

Indian women’s cricket team will take on Pakistan in their opening fixture of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Birmingham on June 14. Speaking during the JioStar Media Day ahead of the big game, ICC expert Nasser Hussain shared his thoughts on India’s fearless approach with the bat, explained why Smriti Mandhana will be critical to her side’s chances in the match, and revealed his semi-final predictions from Group A. “There is obviously a great rivalry across any sport between India and Pakistan, but recently, in men’s and women’s cricket, it has not been particularly close, especially in ICC events. The rivalry has not yet kicked off to the extent of the men’s game, but it is still India vs Pakistan, and it is a format that can cause upsets. So, India will be confident but obviously wary that it only takes Fatima Sana to have a good day, and they could be in trouble. But I think India will be too strong.
