Evening showers on Saturday left several arterial and sub-arterial roads across the city waterlogged, leading to traffic snarls, vehicle breakdowns, and disruptions during peak hours. The situation was particularly severe in the eastern parts of the city, including Whitefield, Mahadevapura, and Varthur. HAL Airport Road, connecting to Varthur Road, was among the worst-hit stretches, with commuters struggling through knee-deep waterlogging. The severe inundation also led to multiple vehicle breakdowns, causing prolonged congestion. Even ambulance movement was hit. Commuters took to X to share their ordeal and questioned the functioning of the East Corporation despite it being the richest civic body. A traffic police official told The Hindu that an overflowing stormwater drain in the vicinity compounded the problem. However, a corporation official explained that stormwater drain (SWD) works were currently underway in the area. VIBHU The Kochi Corporation has issued Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) a 10-day deadline to resolve traffic logjam and waterlogging caused by potholed roads and blocked drains along the stretch in front of St. Martin’s Church at Palarivattom, where works on the second phase of the Kochi metro from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Infopark are under way. The ultimatum followed an inspection of the affected stretch by a delegation led by Mayor V.K. Minimol, accompanied by officials of the city traffic police and KMRL, after mounting public outcry over the nightmarish conditions worsened by the onset of the monsoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Friday in the national capital. At many places in Delhi, vehicles could be seen making their way through the waterlogged roads. According to the IMD, a combination of factors will likely keep Delhi wet. It may cause waterlogging, especially in low-lying areas, and possible traffic disruptions. The IMD has predicted more rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 kmph for the national capital until Friday. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday is expected to hover at 28 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, according to the weather department. Following continuous rainfall in Gurgaon, several key areas were waterlogged, leading to traffic disruptions and flooding in shops and houses across various parts of the city. Traffic Police said they were facilitating traffic movement in main points on the highway with several officials. A senior officer said Rajeev Chowk had 18 personnel, IFFCO Chowk with 10 policemen, Subhash Chowk had 12, IMT Manesar Chowk had 10 personnel, Narsinghpur, which sees heavy waterlogging, has eight personnel and the Sirhaul border sported 10 personnel.
