Uttarakhand police unable to enforce UCC due to delay in software update

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami  | Photo Credit: File Photo More than a year after the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was implemented in Uttarakhand in January 2025, the State police have been unable to register cases under relevant sections of the law as the centralised online platform to file FIRs, chargesheets, and investigation reports is awaiting a software update. All police stations in the country are linked through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), which was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs with the aim of digitising police station records, tracking crimes and criminals in real-time, and centralising data across the country for faster investigation, improved decision-making, and enhanced public services such as e-filing of complaints. The issue came to light when Shaheen, a resident of Haridwar, approached the Buggawala police station to file a complaint against her husband and in-laws. She alleged that she was subjected to physical violence and mental harassment soon after marriage over dowry demands. She claimed that her husband gave her triple talaq and that …

Ramesh Chennithala alleges scam in software contract for primary agriculture credit societies in Kerala

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Friday alleged that ground is being prepared in the Kerala’s Cooperation department for a major scam in connection with the development of a ‘uniform software solution’ for 4,415 primary agriculture cooperative credit society (PACS) branches in the State. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Chennithala said that the original decision to award the contract to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for ₹206 crore was cancelled and a fresh tender was invited under mysterious circumstances. The CPI(M)-led LDF government is attempting to award the work to Kannur-based Kerala Dinesh Beedi Workers’ Central Cooperative Society Ltd which has quoted ₹58 crore for providing the software solution to 280 cooperatives, he said. At that rate, equipping all 4,415 cooperative society branches would cost around ₹914 crore, resulting in a loss of ₹700 crore to the State when compared to the amount quoted by TCS, Mr. Chennithala alleged. The Cooperation department had issued orders accepting the TCS’s single tender for the work in September 2023. The financial bid was approved through a government order …

Google sued by Autodesk over AI-powered movie-making software

By Jonathan Stempel Google sued by Autodesk over AI-powered movie-making software Feb 9 – Google has been sued by Autodesk for allegedly infringing its “Flow” trademark to market competing AI-enabled software used to make movies, TV shows and video games. In a complaint filed on Friday in San Francisco federal court, Autodesk said it began using Flow in September 2022 for visual effects, production management and other products, and was surprised when Google launched Flow software in May 2025 aimed at the same customers. Autodesk said Google assured it would not commercialize Flow, yet applied that month to trademark the term in the Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific, where applications are not generally available to the public. The complaint said Google used the Tonga application to seek similar trademark protection for Flow in the U.S., and has marketed Flow at industry events including the Sundance Film Festival. “Google’s false representation that it would always use a combination of its house mark and Flow was intended to buy time to allow it to swamp …

‘Poor rostering, glitch in IndiGo’s software contributed to flight disruption’

NEW DELHI: IndiGo’s nationwide flight disruptions were caused by poor rostering under the new flight duty time limits (FDTL) and a technical glitch in its crew-rostering and scheduling software, leading to widespread cancellations and delays across airports since Wednesday, two officials said. A series of meetings were held at the civil aviation ministry on Friday morning, with civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu reviewing the situation at the airports through the 24×7 control room (MoCA_GoI) Officials also said the airline faced technical issues in its baggage systems, affecting passengers in Delhi’s Terminal 3 and, more significantly, those in Terminal 1. While the technical glitch was resolved, cascading delays in receiving baggage continued to affect passengers. “The issue has led to mounting operational strain and increasing pressure on airport infrastructure, and hence all the stakeholders have been asked to observe a vigil,” one of the officials said, explaining why aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had ordered a probe into IndiGo’s flight disruptions. “The Government of India has decided to institute a high-level inquiry …
