NEW DELHI: Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, an armoured corps officer, will on Wednesday take charge as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, replacing Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh who will move from New Delhi to Chandimandir as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command, as part of a reshuffle in the army’s top echelons, officials aware of the matter said on Tuesday. Seth will be the senior-most officer when army chief General Upendra Dwivedi retires on June 30, making him the frontrunner for the top post. Gen Seth to take charge as army vice chief Seth was so far heading the Pune-based Southern Command, a role he held since July 1, 2024. (Ministry of Defence) The Indian Army successfully conducted a large-scale drone and counter-drone exercise called the ‘Vayu Samanvay-II’ from October 28-29 in the Desert Sector under the aegis of the Southern Command to test the military’s preparedness for next-generation warfare, according to the Ministry of Defence. The Army conducted the exercise by integrating various aerial and ground assets and the fusion of multi-domain command and control centres in a realistic, electronic warfare and contested operational environment, the ministry said in an official statement. The Pimpri Chinchwad police, in a joint operation with the military intelligence unit of Indian Army’s Southern Command, have arrested a Pune resident for allegedly swindling lakhs of rupees from people promising them jobs in an ordnance factory in Pune, the police said on Thursday. The police said that the accused identified as Subhash Magan Pawar, resident of Khed taluka, was working with a defence establishment in Pune. The suspect had allegedly taken about Rs 43 lakh from at least four people. The police suspect the accused has allegedly cheated more persons through the recruitment scam. Story continues below this ad According to the police, the fake recruitment scam came to light following a complaint from a woman from Malwadi in Dehugaon who allegedly gave Pawar a cheque of Rs 24 lakh to secure jobs for her three sons at an ordnance depot.
