With minimalism, speed and touches, Vinicius shows he is Brazil’s figurehead

The cameras trailed Vinicius Junior into the tunnel at half time. He turned back with a waspish smile and held up three fingers. He had pinched a pair of goals, but the goal the Video Assistant Referee chalked off, unjustifiably for him, was incensing him. Before he passed to the tunnel, he stopped beside the assistant referee and wagged his index finger with a sarcastic smile. The disallowed goal, for a contentious nudge on the defender Jack Hendry when he stole the ball, was playing in his mind, amidst the snake-hip gyration that followed the second goal. Brazil’s third goal eventually came, but from Matteus Cunha to wrap Brazil’s most emphatic day in the World Cup, skinning Scotland, their knockout hopes at the largesse of fate. It was the numerical allure of a hat-trick that was disturbing him; but its wider, intangible significance. Every goal scored takes him, or any Brazilian, closer to gaining unconditional love from their demanding fans. Every goal scored is another crucification passed; every goal takes him closer to the pedestal …

Seam, speed, swing — how Shami, Mayank and Prince are building LSG’s pace pack | Cricket News

Seam, speed, swing — how Shami, Mayank and Prince are building LSG’s pace pack | Cricket News

Three bowlers. One powerplay. The seam, the speed, the swing – each doing a different job, each doing it well. LSG may not be winning. The same can’t be said about the pace pack. Mohammed Shami took the new ball in RCB’s chase. The ball angled in, straightened off the deck; Bethell swung across the line. Prince Yadav held the catch at deep backward point. In the second over, seam-up again, Patidar beaten outside off. “Jis din main bore ho jaaunga – us din main cricket chhod dunga,” (I will quit the day I am bored). Shami had said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel a few weeks before this game. “Records uthake dekh lijiye. IPL mein bhi Indian bowlers ke aaspaas ho koi — phir bhi log kehte hain main T20 ka bowler nahi hoon.” (You can check the records – there may not be many Indian bowlers close to me, yet they say I am not a T20 bowler). The ball still does what he asks it to. He has taken four wickets in …

High speed mechanised boats proposed for Nellore fishermen

Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Mastan Rao Yadav submitting a representation to Minister of State for Fisheries S.P. Singh Baghel in New Delhi recently. Photo: Special Arrangement Rajya Sabha Member Beedha Mastan Rao Yadav has mooted a proposal to procure high speed mechanised boats to strengthen the fishing capabilities of the fishermen of SPSR Nellore district, who have been recently facing onslaught due to incursion by fellow fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The absence of such larger boats along the State’s coastline is widely felt as the reason for poaching from the neighbouring States. Such boats help the fishers travel deeper into the sea and stay for longer durations, which improves their livelihood sources in the form of a higher yield. Kerala advised to revise DPR of semi-high speed rail corridor on broad gauge

The Union Railway Ministry has revived hopes for Kerala’s long-pending semi-high-speed rail project, SilverLine, by asking the State to revise the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The proposed corridor from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod is now required to use broad gauge (BG) tracks instead of the originally proposed standard gauge tracks. This directive comes as the Railway Board develops standards and specifications for a semi-high-speed BG corridor, drawing from its ongoing Sarkhej–Dholera project under Western Railway in Gujarat. The Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (K-Rail), the joint venture responsible for implementing railway projects in the State, has been advised to revise the DPR in consultation with Western Railway. Speed up work of automatic closure systems at 1,228 crossings: Railway Board

The Railway Board has instructed all railway zones to speed up the installation of automatic closure systems at 1,228 level crossings across the country. The move aims to ensure that trains cannot receive a green signal unless the crossing gates are properly closed to road traffic, reported the PTI. The system, known as interlocking of level crossing (LC) gates, is designed to improve safety. Under the new mechanism, the gates will automatically close when a train approaches and if the gate remains open, the system will prevent the train from getting a green signal. This will reduces the risk of accidents caused by human error or negligence, officials said, according to the PTI. Action following fatal accident The directive follows a tragic accident on July 8, 2025, in Cuddalore, where a passenger train collided with a school van, resulting in the deaths of three children. After the incident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ordered the installation of interlocking systems at high-risk crossings, the news agency reported. Maharashtra: Central Railway removes speed restriction on Asvali-Padli section

Central Railway (CR) has successfully removed the long-standing Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 75 kmph on the Up line of the Asvali, Padli section in Bhusaval Division, marking a major improvement in train operations.  The stretch, spanning 800 meters between Kms 160.57 and 160.13, had required careful monitoring, especially during the monsoon season, CR said. Using the Cut and Cover method, the team deployed 4 excavators, 2 JCBs, 3 Hydra cranes, 1 vibratory roller, and water tankers.
