Maharashtra Assembly polls to witness debutants Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana vs NCP (SP)’s Fahad Ahmad clash | Mumbai News

Anushakti Nagar is set for a contest between two poll debutants. Sitting MLA Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana Malik is representing the Mahayuti alliance from the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP, while Fahad Ahmad, a new entrant in Maharashtra politics, represents the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) from the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP. This is comparatively a new constituency that came into existence only in 2008, after delimitation. Over the years, the political scene in Anushakti Nagar has been dominated by Nawab Malik, a former NCP minister who won the Assembly seat in 2009 and again in 2019. However, recent legal issues and allegations have affected Malik’s standing there, leading the NCP to field his daughter, Sana, as their candidate after the BJP opposed Malik’s nomination. Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March 2022 in a money laundering case linked to gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Malik spent 18 months in Jail before being granted bail on medical grounds by the Supreme Court in August 2023. The BJP has alleged that Malik has …

The seat fell vacant after SP MLA Irfan Solanki was disqualified from the Assembly following his conviction in a criminal case. Another model of the SP was evident in Kannauj, the CM pointed out. “They violate …
