File. | Photo Credit: AFP India has received the fourth squadron of the Russia-made S-400 air defence system, strengthening the country’s long-range air defence network. The system arrived from Russia as scheduled in May, and is expected to be deployed in an operational area shortly, sources in the defence sector said. The delivery is part of a $5.43 billion agreement signed between India and Russia in 2018 for the acquisition of five S-400 regimental systems. Three S-400 squadrons have already been inducted into service; the fourth has now arrived, following delays linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The remaining squadron under the original contract is expected to be delivered in 2027, officials said. Deliveries are now back on schedule. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has busted the rumours circulating on social media platforms regarding the capture of an Indian Air Force female in Pakistan. New Delhi: Amid rising military confrontation between Pakistan and India, several pro-Pakistan social media handles are spreading fake news as they claimed that an Indian Air Force pilot has been captured in Pakistan. One of the posts claimed that an Indian female Air Force pilot squadron leader, Shivani Singh, has been captured in Pakistan. “There are news that Indian Female Air Force pilot squadron leader Shivani Singh captuted in Pakistan while she jumped from the jet, her is a video too watch out,” the post claimed. However, the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) stated that the claim is FAKE. “Indian Female Air Force pilot has NOT been captured,” it stated.  PIB has urged citizens to be careful and ignore such information and not share such unverified messages further. One of the first female fighter pilots of the country, Squadron Leader Singh has shattered glass ceilings once again. Her remarkable feat underscores the Indian Air Force’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment. The officer was part of the recent exercise, ‘Tarang Shakti’ in Jodhpur, where she was part of the historic flight by three Vice Chiefs of the three forces. She has joined the elite 18 ‘Flying Bullets’ squadron, which operates the LCA Tejas.  She was the first woman fighter pilot to be inducted into a fighter squadron about eight years ago. Mohana Singh was part of the initial trio of female fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force, alongside Squadron Leaders Bhawana Kanth and Avni Chaturvedi. In the early days, the three pilots flew various aircraft from the Air Force’s fighter fleet. Currently, Kanth and Chaturvedi are flying the Su-30 MKI fighter jets in the western desert. Indian Army raised its first Apache attack helicopter squadron in the desert sector. New Delhi: In a major capability boost, the Indian Army on Friday raised its first Apache attack helicopter squadron in the desert sector in Jodhpur near the Pakistan front. The squadron was raised today in Jodhpur in the presence of Director General Indian Army Aviation Lt Gen Ajay Suri and officials from the original manufacturer Boeing along with other senior officials, Indian Army Officials told ANI. The Indian Army Apache helicopters would camouflage desert colours and the first batch of choppers would arrive and join the fleet by May this year, they said. There is a slight delay in view of the ongoing global security situation but they are now on track, the officials said. Earlier, the Indian Army has signed a contract to acquire six Apache helicopters from the US. The Indian Navy on Sunday announced that it will raise the first squadron of MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, imported from the US, at INS Garuda in Kochi on March 6, strengthening its anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare and surveillance capabilities. The advanced weapons, sensors and avionics suite make the Seahawks ideal for the Indian Navy’s maritime security needs. The first Seahawk squadron will be raised with the six helicopters that have been delivered to the navy, HT has learnt. The navy ordered 24 Lockheed Martin-Sikorsky MH-60R multi-role helicopters from the US four years ago to modernise its ageing helicopter fleet.
