3 min readJun 4, 2026 04:19 PM IST The Sports Ministry is set to open bids for the conceptualisation of a sports city at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium complex in the national capital. “We will open the bid for conceptualisation in two weeks. First, a transaction advisor will be hired. After that, the detailed project proposals will be evaluated,” a source close to development said. While there is no concrete timeline for the construction of the Sports City, it is believed that work could gather pace once the right bidder is identified. In November 2025, the ministry had decided to dismantle the current JLN Stadium to pave the way for a sports city that will house venues for all the major Olympic disciplines, along with residential facilities for athletes. A 50-year-old boxing coach was at the Kanteerava Stadium was arrested by Bengaluru Police for sexually harassing a minor athlete. As per reports, the mother of a 17-year-old boxer alleged who trains at a club in the stadium, in a complaint alleged that a coach named Ramachandra has been sexually harassing her daughter nearly six months. The victim has been training at the club since a decade, whereas the coach joined four years ago. As per a report in Times of India, the coach alleged called the girl to his room during a competition in Chennai earlier this month and despite resistance kissed her and touched her inappropriately. Similar incidents took place earlier as well as per the complaint. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and BNS section 351 against the coach and he has been remanded in judicial custody. The Cubbon Park police registered an FIR on April 25 under section 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to mischief and deliberate destruction of property. The complaint was filed by Aditya Bhat, a representative of Staqu Technologies Pvt Ltd, a Gurgaon-based firm. The accused are Manjunath, 37, from Hiriyuru in Chitradurga district, and Abdul Kalam, 19, from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh — both employees of IVS Digital Solution, a sub-contractor involved in the stadium’s CCTV operations. According to the FIR, the two accused entered the stadium using passes but without authorisation at around 11.30 am on the day of the match. They allegedly proceeded to deliberately tamper with network video recorder (NVR) systems and fibre connections, disabling cameras across critical areas, including all entry …
