Paramount Skydance is working on a new Star Trek movie

Paramount Skydance head David Ellison made it very clear that he was interested in restarting the studio’s Star Trek movie franchise with some new blood, and it seems like that plan is moving forward. Deadline reports that Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves co-directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have signed on to an all-new Star Trek feature that will be “a completely new take” on the IP with no direct connections to any past series or films. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds sets phasers to camp is new S3 trailer

Though the last season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ended on a perilous note, when the Paramount Plus series returns, it’s going to lean into the whimsical energy that made the original ‘60s show feel fun. Ahead of Strange New Worlds’ season three premiere, Paramount Plus has dropped a new trailer teasing how the USS Enterprise’s crew are going to find themselves trapped in some kind of anomaly that transforms them into the stars of a kitschy sci-fi program meant to “give audiences a reflection of their own world through the lens of fantasy.” Captain Kirk (Paul Wesley), Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), and Number One / Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) don’t exactly seem to know that they’ve been cast in a practical effects-filled sendup of the Enterprise’s adventures. Canadian actor Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, known for his notable roles in Hollywood such as Star Trek: Discovery and Captain Marvel died at the age of 49 from complications related to ALS on Saturday. His family members confirmed his passing, releasing an official statement on social media.  On Saturday, Mitchel’s family took to his Instagram account and wrote a statement regarding the actor’s death, “With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend.” The family also shared an obituary of the actor on the graphics that read, “Born in Toronto, Canada on November 25, 1974, to Diane and David Mitchell, Ken was widely known as an actor in many films and television shows.
