4 min readNew DelhiMar 9, 2026 10:12 AM IST Karnataka High Court news: The Karnataka High Court recently refused to quash criminal proceedings against a man accused of storing child pornographic material on his mobile phone, observing that mere storage of such content can attract offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act even if the material was not transmitted. Justice M Nagaprasanna dismissed the petition filed by the accused, who had sought quashing of the proceedings pending before a Bengaluru special court. “Merely because the petitioner has not transmitted anything from his phone would not mean that he would not be liable for the ingredients of the said offence,” the high court’s order dated January 12 read. High court’s observations The submission of the learned counsel for the petitioner is that merely keeping videos and pictures of child pornography would not be an offence under the aforesaid sections. The submission is unacceptable and is in violation of the law laid down by the apex court. …

At least three workers died and three sustained injuries after a silo storing corn collapsed in an ethanol manufacturing factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar`s Shendre MIDC, Maharashtra, on Friday, officials said. The bodies of three workers have been recovered, while one worker is missing, he added. “At around 2.20pm, a 17.17-metre diameter silo tank with a height of 2,160 metres collapsed at Radico NV distilleries. The corn stored in the 3,000-tonne capacity fell out, killing three workers and injuring three others. One person is missing. Search and rescue operations are underway at the site,” he said. Supreme Court rules ‘watching, storing child pornography is offence under POCSO Act’ – India TV

In a significant ruling on September 23, the Supreme Court declared that the storage of child pornographic material constitutes an offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The decision was delivered by a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala, which overturned a recent judgment by the Madras High Court. The Madras High Court had previously ruled that merely downloading or viewing child pornography, without the intent to distribute or transmit, did not amount to an offence. However, the Supreme Court firmly set aside this interpretation, affirming that the possession of such material alone is a criminal act under the POCSO Act, which aims to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
