US warned tanker nearly 60 times before strike killed 3 Indian sailors off Oman coast: Report | World News

The Palau-flagged vessel disabled by the US military in the Gulf of Oman dismissed nearly 60 verbal warnings and other shows of force before its engine room was fired upon, killing three Indian sailors, a report on Sunday stated. According to an AP report citing a US official, the tanker M/T Settebello’s crew ignored at least eight shows of force by US military aircraft, which included fired flares and flyovers. Final directives and blockade violations Two additional final warnings were also issued to the vessel that had 24 Indian crew members, before the American forces fired at the ship that was travelling off the Oman coast on Wednesday. The US Central Command had said that the oil tanker tried to “violate” the blockade put up by America outside the Strait of Hormuz. Casualties from precision fire An American aircraft fired “precision munitions” at the engine room of the Palau-flagged M/T Settebello vessel, the US military said earlier in the week, and the incident in the Gulf of Oman led to the killing of three Indian …

India issues fresh travel advisory, urges citizens to leave Iran

India has once again advised its citizens to avoid travelling to Iran and urged those currently in the country to leave using available transport options amid rising tensions in the region, reported the PTI. The Indian Embassy in Iran issued the fresh advisory on Monday following recent developments that have heightened security concerns. “In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian nationals to avoid any travel to Iran,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X. The advisory also urged Indian citizens already in Iran to leave the country through available means of transport. The warning comes after Israel carried out air strikes targeting locations in central and western Iran on Monday. The strikes were launched in response to missile attacks from Tehran, according to reports. The latest exchange has further intensified tensions in the Middle East and raised concerns about the safety of foreign nationals living or travelling in the region. pic.twitter.com/jWFDrdsAlz — India in Iran (@India_in_Iran) June 8, 2026 Earlier advisory issued …

Trump Explosively Rejects Iran’s Counter-Proposal as Strait of Hormuz Peace Hopes Falter

President Donald Trump waves to reporters as he walks on the South Lawn upon his arrival to the White House. (Photo: AP) US President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran’s response to a US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Gulf, calling it “totally unacceptable” and signalling continued deadlock in negotiations. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said he had reviewed the message conveyed by Tehran’s representatives but was unimpressed. “I don’t like it,” he wrote, without elaborating on the specifics of the response. (Photo: @realDonaldTrump) Talks stall amid continued clashes Efforts to broker peace between Washington and Iran have slowed in recent weeks, even as both sides continue military exchanges in the Persian Gulf. The tensions persist more than a month after a temporary ceasefire was announced, which had aimed to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Iran has continued to restrict shipping through the strait a key global oil transit route exacerbating uncertainty in energy markets. Iran Issues Chilling New Threat to US as Peace Talks Hit a Deadlock

A man holds an Iranian flag for a pro-government campaign in downtown Tehran, Iran. (Photo: AP) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any attack on its oil tankers or commercial vessels would trigger retaliation against United States military bases and ships in the region, as tensions continue around the Strait of Hormuz. State-run IRIB News quoted IRGC naval commanders as saying: “Any attack on Iranian oil tankers and commercial ships will be met with a wide attack on one of the American bases in the region and enemy ships.” “Any attack… will be met with a wide attack” The warning follows a series of confrontations between Iranian and US forces in and around the Strait, a key route for global oil shipments. While both sides have reported limited exchanges of fire in recent days, US President Donald Trump has said a ceasefire remains in place. “Missiles and drones are locked on American targets” In a separate statement carried by IRIB, a senior Iranian commander said Tehran’s military assets were ready. “IRGC missiles …

Iran Threatens ‘Long and Painful’ Strikes on US Warships if Trump Resumes Bombing

Iran has warned it will launch “long and painful strikes” against United States positions if Washington renews military action, as tensions persist over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and stalled efforts to end the conflict. The warning comes nearly two months into the US-Israeli war with Iran, with a ceasefire formally in place since April 8 but key disputes unresolved. Iran has continued to block the Strait of Hormuz a critical global shipping route in response to a US naval blockade targeting its oil exports. The closure has disrupted around a fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies, pushing up energy prices and raising concerns about wider economic fallout. A senior official in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said any renewed US attack, even if limited, would trigger sustained retaliation. “Any new aggression will be met with long and painful strikes,” the official said. Aerospace Force Commander Majid Mousavi also warned US naval assets could be targeted. Story continues below this ad “We’ve seen what happened to your regional bases; the same can happen …

There are three pathways for India to develop greater energy resilience

There are three pathways for India to develop greater energy resilience

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is, perhaps, a crisis too valuable to ignore. While some disruption is inevitable in the near term, within a timeframe of 5-10 years, more sustainable solutions may be found by realigning our energy dependence from external to internal sources. What are these internal sources? We could “drill, baby drill” for oil and gas off the Andaman & Nicobar islands. However, this is a very capital-intensive undertaking with uncertain outcomes, and if successful, it will, based on evidence, take decades to exploit. Commercialising fossil-fuel alternatives from locally available resources is imperative, along with an alternative supply and distribution chain for LNG. Based on current and emerging technologies, there are three feasible pathways for greater energy resilience: Widening electricity applications in transport, cooking, industrial process heat, and production of e-fuels; biofuels from agricultural residues and manure, municipal solid and liquid waste, and forestry biomass; increasing the share of natural gas in primary energy, and integrating small-scale LNG (SSLNG). We take up each in turn: First, India’s targets for non-fossil electricity …

How Asha Bhosle redefined Indian music with 12,000 songs and a ‘daring’ legacy

As news of Asha Bhosle’s passing spread, a heavy blanket of grief seemed to descend upon the nation. Her death at 92 marks a profound loss, silencing one of the most daring and distinctive voices Indian cinema has ever known. In a country that had already anointed Lata Mangeshkar as its “nightingale,” Bhosle chose not to follow, but to forge her own path — one that was bolder, more experimental, and endlessly versatile. With over 12,000 songs across genres ranging from classical to cabaret, she reshaped the contours of playback singing, bringing a rare adaptability that could mirror every mood, era, and actress on screen. Her long and iconic partnership with R. D. Burman further pushed musical boundaries, giving Hindi cinema some of its most unforgettable sounds. Trump issues ‘staggering’ 50% tariff warning to China over Iran weapons reports

US President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened China of imposing a “staggering” 50% tariff if Beijing provides weapons or military assistance to Iran amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. During an interview with Fox News, Trump was asked by the anchor whether his earlier warning of levying 50% tariff on countries helping Iran was targeting China. “Yes, China and potentially others. But specifically, yes, China is included,” the US president responded. 🇺🇸 “I hear news reports about China giving the shoulder missiles. I doubt they would do that because I have a relationship and I think they wouldn’t do that, but maybe they did a little bit at the beginning, but I don’t think they would anymore.
