The Italian Prime Minister shared a light-hearted anecdote about the warm reception she received in New Delhi, where her posters lined the streets during her arrival and departure. When I left, the posters showed the same image, but now read ‘Thank you for visiting’. “My colleague Antonio Tajani, who was with me, joked: ‘With all these posters, if you ran for the New Delhi constituency, you’d get a million votes’,” says …

‘Tum kaun ho’: Neha Bhasin says Bollywood struggle after Viva’s success was going from ‘penthouse to streets’| Interview

Singer Neha Bhasin found fame and success early in life. She was just 19, a student of Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College, when she won Channel V’s Popstars and became part of Viva, India’s first girl group. Two albums and global fame followed. But after Viva ended, Neha found herself struggling to make it as an independent artist. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, the singer recalls how, back then, she felt her career had ended before it even began, wondering if she was ‘history at 21’. Neha Bhasin talks her about her solo career. ‘I realised I am not a playback singer’ Viva released their debut album in 2002, followed by a hit sophomore album the following year. Neha, along with her bandmates, extensively toured India in 2002-03. But in 2004, the four women decided to pursue their solo careers. Neha tried to venture into the world of playback singing and recalled, “When the band ended, that is when I realised how different things are. Till then, we were protected. Then, I realised I …

Joy on the streets in South Africa as Bafana Bafana make World Cup history | Football News

3 min readJun 25, 2026 12:06 PM IST In the seconds after the final whistle blew in Monterrey, Mexico, people took to the streets thousands of kilometres away under dark skies in South Africa as their football team progressed past the group stage of a FIFA World Cup for the first time. The victory was made even sweeter by the fact that they had defeated the heavily favoured South Korea, who are placed 26 spots above Bafana Bafana in the world rankings. Thapelo Maseko scored in the 63rd minute to put South Africa ahead. After that, it was mostly South Korea with the ball but they struggled to create any clear cut chances and challenge South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams. There was a late header from Park Jin-Seob that Williams saved and when the final whistle blew, the South Africans streamed onto the pitch from the bench while those who were playing sank to their knees. Social media was flooded with videos of people dancing on the streets back home in South Africa in the …

Alireza Beiranvand’s story: Belgium’s tormentor once slept on streets, washed cars | Football News

5 min readNew YorkJun 22, 2026 07:13 AM IST Belgium’s forwards would hit the bed spooked by the two giant gloved fists of Alireza Beiranvand, the Iran goalkeeper. It was as though his fists were made of elastic, stretchable, bendable, and for his team, reliable. The wonder writ profoundly over Kevin de Bruyne’s face when he saved a hammered shot from Maxim De Cuyper from close range captured the wondrous flexibility of his limbs. When de Cuyper took the shot, from a deflection that fell at his feet, he was slipping in the opposite direction, the momentum from an anticipated shot before the ball’s reroute. But Alireza somehow contrived to stretch his left-hand and palm the ball away from danger, his upper body barely in the air, pushing to the left and towards the ball, while the lower body was being dragged to his right. If he were not a footballer, he would have been a gymnast perhaps, despite the build of a basket-baller, tall with long and sinewy limbs. The odds are that he …

TMC in turmoil, rebels testing her grip on party, why Mamata Banerjee hit the streets | Political Pulse News

5 min readKolkataJun 18, 2026 07:00 AM IST First published on: Jun 18, 2026 at 07:00 AM IST With most of her MPs and MLAs having deserted her and the Left and the Congress eyeing the Opposition space amid a vacuum created by her party’s organisational collapse, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday took everyone by surprise as she took to the streets to protest against hawker evictions across the state. While hundreds of party supporters joined Banerjee in the protest march in the city’s Dharmatala area, several TMC leaders stayed away, with MLA Kunal Ghosh and MP Dola Sen the only known faces seen alongside the former Chief Minister. Banerjee was also seen talking to hawkers during the protest programme. “Our Hon’ble chairperson @MamataOfficial, alongside party leaders and dedicated workers, led a peaceful protest march against the illegal, unjust and deeply inhumane eviction of hawkers across Bengal,” TMC posted on X. “The people of Bengal have always come first. Their dignity, livelihoods and rights will be defended with unwavering resolve, and in …

Students of sealed seminary-cum-school hit streets, demand re-opening in Kashmir’s Shopian

Students and parents of the Siraj-ul-Uloom, which the administration closed under the provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) last month, on Thursday (May 7, 2026) took to the streets and demanded its immediate reopening in south Kashmir’s Shopian. Hundreds of students, accompanied by parents, hit the streets in south Kashmir and marched towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner. “Most students are from poor families. What is the sin of the students? How can the administration mar their future?” said a parent. Shopian legislator Shabir Kullay also joined the protesters and demanded steps to ensure the students’ career is not affected. Over 800 students are enrolled at the seminary-cum-school. “Illegal activities should not be tolerated. However, the future of innocent students should not suffer. The closure of the institute is unfortunate,” said Mr. Kullay. He said the government should intervene to “ensure there was no academic loss for the students”. Officials said the district administration was mulling to have the students admitted to nearby schools. On April 28, the seminary-cum-school was sealed under provisions of …
