According to officials, PWD has also floated tenders for beautification of these stretches giving it an uplift by installing decorative street lights and lamps to beautifully lit the roads. “The main goal is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area, which holds both national and international significance. A lot of people including politicians, foreign dignitaries, locals and tourists come to visit Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi on a daily basis..,” said officials. One person has been arrested in connection with the case, police said. According to officials, train services on the Magenta Line from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park were regulated on Thursday morning following the theft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Sunday inaugurated the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch of the line. Owing to the theft, trains in the affected stretch between Bhalswa and Majlis Park were operated at a restricted speed of 25 kmph, while services on the remaining section towards Deepali Chowk continued normally, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said. The Union cabinet on Tuesday approved a modification to a greenfield expressway to include an 11km-long elevated stretch between Jewar’s Noida International Airport and Faridabad at a revised cost of ₹3,631 crore. The elevated corridor will link Jewar airport with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway’s Faridabad–Ballabhgarh–Sohna spur. The road was originally planned as an at-grade corridor and work had already begun under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, the Centre’s flagship highway development programme aimed at building and upgrading key economic corridors across the country. According to a press release, the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a revised total capital cost of ₹3,631 crore for the construction of the greenfield expressway. The elevated stretch between the DND–Ballabhgarh bypass and Jewar airport would cost ₹689.24 crore, of which the Haryana government will bear ₹450 crore. Officials said about 7.8km corridor passes through notified urban limits under the Faridabad Master Plan 2031, prompting the decision to build this portion as an elevated stretch to accommodate planned high-density urban development and future infrastructure expansion. Ahmedabad: Seven people were killed after a Maruti Eeco van collided with a truck on a hilly stretch in the Kumbhghat area in Valsad district, Gujarat, on Friday. Police said the collision occurred on Friday afternoon on the Kaprada–Nanapondha ghat road when the van hit the truck near a sharp bend. Kaparada is a taluka in Valsad district, Gujarat, India, near the border to Maharashtra. It is located in the Western Ghats. Five occupants of the van died on the spot. Two others were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to seven, according to a senior police official. The victims were residents of Amba Jungle village in Kaprada taluka, the official said. The impact left the van badly mangled. The driver and cleaner of the truck were injured and are being treated at a local hospital, the official added.
