Manchester United Striker Marcus Rashford ‘Ready For New Challenge’

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford admitted in an interview on Tuesday that he was “ready for a new challenge” away from Old Trafford. The 27-year-old, who was left out of last weekend’s derby against Manchester City, came through United’s youth ranks and has chalked up 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2016. However, he has struggled for form over the last 18 months, losing his place in England’s squad for the Euros in the summer. “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said in the interview with British journalist Henry Winter on social media. “When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. “If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. “I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When …

Who is Viktor Gyokeres? Meet Sporting Lisbon’s Swedish striker who could be football’s next $100 million-plus player | Football News

Sporting bought Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry City for around $25 million. And now, a big-money move to one of Europe’s leading teams feels inevitable. The Swedish striker’s explosive goal-scoring has made him one of the hottest properties in Europe and could see him become football’s next $100 million-plus player. Yet, Premier League clubs seemingly missed his rare talent when it was right under their noses. Instead, Sporting Lisbon took a chance on Gyokeres and now stands to make a fortune after plucking him from the second tier of English football last year. Since his move to Portugal, he has gone on to score 66 goals in 68 appearances — including 23 goals in 18 this term — and helped Sporting win the title last season. To put the 26-year-old forward’s club statistics into context, this season he is outscoring Robert Lewandowski (19 in 17 games), Harry Kane (17 in 16) and Erling Haaland (15 in 16). Gyokeres stretches defences with his direct runs and is deadly in front of goal with rasping shots that find …

Argentina’s top-flight club gives social media influencer striker role and 50-second cameo | Football News

Argentina’s top-flight club gives social media influencer striker role and 50-second cameo | Football News

In a bizarre marketing move, Argentina football club Deportivo Riestra started their league one game against group leaders Velez Sarsfield with a social media influencer Ivan Buhajeruk. Known as Spreen in social media circles, he has more than 8 million subscribers on YouTube and 5 million followers on Instagram. Yet, the 24-year-old had no professional football experience, but began the game as a striker. Only last February had the ninth-placed club registered him with the Argentine FA and subsequently handed out a contract. He started training with the team only last Tuesday. His game, though, lasted only 50 seconds. Needless to say, he didn’t touch the ball. Deportivo Riestra executives defended the gimmick as a push for their main sponsor, an energy drink company. The request came from the owner of the club Victor Stinfale, who owns both the club and the energy drink company that sponsors it. The coach Cristian Fabiani too was not keen but forced to start with him due a contractual obligation. “It’s something contractual that was signed a long time …

File image of Christian Pulisic© AFP AC Milan striker Christian Pulisic is among five players rested from the United States national team ahead of Tuesday’s friendly in Mexico, US Soccer said on Sunday. Pulisic set up the first American goal in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Panama at Austin, Texas, that marked a triumphant debut for new US coach Mauricio Pochettino of Argentina. On Sunday, Pulisic was released back to AC Milan, the 26-year-old winger having played a large number of minutes over the past month for his Italian club and the US side. Marlon Fossey, Weston McKennie, Ricardo Pepi and Zack Steffen all have minor injuries and were sent back to their clubs for evaluation and treatment. “As we have said, we are always going to make decisions that are in the best interest of our players and respect the relationship we have with their clubs,” Pochettino said. No additional players will be added to the US roster before Tuesday’s matchup against arch-rival Mexico at Guadalajara. (This story has not been edited by …

Positives from India’s draw against Vietnam: Striker Farukh Chaudhary shows he can find the target | Football News

Positives from India’s draw against Vietnam: Striker Farukh Chaudhary shows he can find the target | Football News

Only three games into his stint as the head coach of the Indian team, Manolo Marquez got the few things that are in his control right in the national team’s friendly against Vietnam. The spine of the Indian XI was built on the backs of defender Anwar Ali and central midfielders Apuia Ralte and Brandon Fernandes. Marquez got a few eyebrow-catching performances as well, chief of which was Farukh Chaudhary, a familiar name in Indian football, who played, and scored as a striker. The Spaniard was also reminded of some of the team’s ever-lasting reliance on Gurpreet Singh Sandhu bailing them out of tough spots as well. On Saturday, the national team played one of its better games over the last year – a year where they were kicked out of the AFC Asian Cup from the group stage without scoring a goal, and then missed out on reaching the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after a humiliating 1-2 loss to Afghanistan at home. Better does not necessarily mean good though, as …

Luis Suarez, one of the most prolific and controversial strikers in world football announced international his retirement at 37 years of age, revealing that his 17-year-long career will end after the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay at Centenario Stadium on Friday (September 6). “It hurts to say it, but Friday will be my last match with my country’s national team. I am retiring because I want to step aside. I am 37 years old, there are a lot of talented players, and I know it would be difficult to get to the next World Cup. It is comforting to know I can retire on my terms and not have to retire due to injuries, or to not being called up. I want to say goodbye here, with my people. This is the ideal moment,” he said at a press conference on Monday. Suárez debuted in 2007 and is Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals in 142 matches. He played in four World Cups and five Copa America. He helped to lead the team to …

Endrick: The Brazilian striker who scored the winner against England can walk in the footsteps of Romario and Ronaldo | Football News

In the most hallowed of England grounds, a 17-year-old Brazilian striker arrived on the world stage. Endrick, the short and rapid striker with a mazy run, would score what turned out to be the winner in the 80th minute of the friendly against England. The strike, in isolation, was not wondrous, a simple rebound off a Vinicius Junior shot that goalkeeper Jordan Pickford blocked away. But there were subtler details to be observed — his clever off-the- ball dart, drifting away from defenders, anticipation that Vinicius would pass him the ball, the sheer desire to get to the stray ball, the split-second decision making, and the smouldering physicality. On first viewing, it seems as though the ball hit him rather than he hit the ball, but the slo-mo showed how he steered the ball goalward with his instep. There was pace on the ball. A heavier touch would have made it squirm off his boot. A softer touch would have resulted in the ball bobbling off his feet. But his touch had the perfect weight …
